**Mount Pleasant Youth Food Security Coordinator**

Located on the unceded and ancestral territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), sḵwx̱wú7mesh
(Squamish) and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations, Mount Pleasant Community Centre is host to a diverse and dynamic community. We are seeking an enthusiastic, driven, and responsible individual who will provide program planning, supervision, and direct leadership to the youth at Mount Pleasant Community Centre relating to the existing food security program with opportunity to create new opportunities. Food security has been a cornerstone of our centre’s history for many years. Originally through collaboration with the Vancouver
Food Bank until December 2020, when they moved to a larger location, and more recently with our Soup
- oriented and be able to engage in age appropriate activities and conversations with the participants while helping them develop their leadership skills.

**Start Date: Mid to late June, 2023 **for two weeks of training, planning and programming
July tentative schedule onwards: Mon
- Fri 9am-4:30pm with some weekend and evening shifts when operationally needed (July 15 2023 for Mount Pleasant Park Festival)

**Duties**:

- Perform administrative duties including monitoring registration numbers, photocopying consent forms, advertising, booking activities, and preparing program evaluations and reports
- Develop, maintain, and submit a weekly budget
- Work with vulnerable populations to provide services
- Implement and follow established risk management guidelines.
- Organize, plan, and lead age appropriate activities that fall within the theme of cooking or food security including but not limited to: o Schedule hourly volunteer slots for youth to engage in the existing food security kitchen with direct supervision through the coordinator o Work with youth to create community kitchens, baking classes and other opportunities for youth to learn cooking and life skills o Work with youth and community youth worker to create a herb garden
- Work with youth, Community Youth Worker and Centre Programmer to sustain the existing food security program through making of soup and sandwiches, picking up donations
- Create promotional material for programs and help promote them in the school
- Responds to first aid needs and unusual incidents
- Maintain positive communication with staff, youth and families
- Follow established centre procedures and protocols to ensure safety of program participants and staff
- Build positive relationships with participants and their families
- Provide mentorship and guidance to volunteers, support and work with them in the kitchen

**Qualifications**:
In compliance with HRSDC guideline, all applicants must be Canadian Citizens, and be legally entitled to work in Canada. Applicants do not need to be students, but need to be aged 18-30 (based on grant conditions and internal guidelines)
- Previous experience working with youth (9-18 years)
- Strong leadership and planning skills
- Comfort and ability to work independently in a kitchen setting
- Ability to manage time and large groups
- Ability to be flexible in adapting activities to suit individual and group dynamics
- Working knowledge of Excel for budgeting and statistics
- Working knowledge of software used to create promotional materials and flyers
- Excellent problem solving skills, communication and interaction skills
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment
- Successful criminal record check
- First aid certificate/CPR C certification required, Class 4 Drivers License is an asset
- Foodsafe certification or willingness to obtain Foodsafe before June start date.
- Formal training or Post-secondary education in a related field is an asset but not mandatory

**Wage**: $ 22.48/hour + percentage in lieu of benefits
