**Youth Food Security Facilitator**

**Səli̓́ lwətaʔ/Selilwitulh (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations.
South Vancouver Neighbourhood House is looking for a Youth Food Security Facilitator for our Youth Team. This is a regular
part-time position. The Youth Food Security Facilitator organizes and facilitates all food and sustainability activities related to
working with vulnerable newcomer youth Grades 8-12 - including in-school lunch time clubs, after-school life skills programs,
field trips, special events and workshops relating to the intersectionality between food skills, sustainability, physical health,
and mental health. This role will support newcomer youth and their families with navigating conversations and education on
healthy eating, food security, cooking skills, sustainability, and mental health through the lens of their unique cultural
background.

This position is part of SVNH’s settlement team, which will liaise with IRCC eligible clients with the intention of providing a full
range of settlement, adaptation, service support, resources and referrals to promote self-advocacy and full participation for
newcomers in Canadian Society.

**Duties and Responsibilities:
- Facilitate one-to-one services for newcomer youth clients in partnership with parents, family members,

schools, and service providers - support youth and their families with resources to food access locations (I.e.
food bank, Quest Foods, SVNH Food Hub)
- Plan, prepare and clean up after weekly food skill programs and sustainability workshops for diverse cultural

backgrounds and ages; also liaise with external partner organizations to deliver such programs where
possible.
- Build relationships with school partners to identify and outreach to vulnerable and food insecure newcomer

youth and their families
- Plan, organize, and facilitate youth-based community connections activities & out trips as outlined relating to

gardening, sustainability, climate change, food access points, and cultural meanings of specific recipes and
dishes
- Prepare and create event and program flyers, posters, and brochures
- Connect clients to in-house services, bridge programming to SVNH services, mentorship and training

opportunities
- Connect newcomer youth to community organizations and service agencies
- Collaborate and network with groups, agencies, schools and government departments and other

stakeholders currently working with immigrant youth communities to discuss issues and trends and develop
new initiatives to meet clients needs
- Evaluate and keep records of client profiles and key statistics including input into government required iCare

database system, including intake forms, narrative, and statistical reports
- Collaborate with external service providers and internal staff in facilitating programs
- Support the development of newcomer youth in the Canadian multi-cultural context
- Maintain information and support resources
- Adheres to confidentiality and privacy policies
- Promote SVNH programs and services
- Provide support to Neighbourhood House sponsored events and activities
- Attend staff meetings/retreats/ training

**Qualifications**:

- Post secondary education in youth work, social work, community support, multicultural work, or related field

in combination with experience in the field.
- Understand the immigration process and how it affects new immigrant families and children.
- Demonstrate an ability to work with individuals and communities suffering from discrimination and culture

shock.
- Awareness of cross-culturalism and support
- Support the development of newcomers in the Canadian multi-cultural context.
- Understanding of the immigration process and issues affecting immigrants and refugees
- Minimum 2 years experience working with immigrant youth in a multicultural environment
- Food Safe level 1
- Minimum 1 year experience of working in a commercial kitchen setting
- Experience working with vulnerable clients facing multiple barriers
- Knowledge of basic counselling skills and crisis intervention skills
- Cross cultural understanding and awareness of other cultural groups
- Excellent organizational, leadership, communication and community development skills
- Experience facilitating groups and designing workshops
- Oral and written proficiency in English and another language prevalent in South Vancouver (Chinese,

Tagalog, Hindi, Dari, or Punjabi preferred)
- Ability to work in a multicultural team environment and independently
- Understanding of the immigration process and issues affecting immigrants and refugees
- Successful criminal record search

**Compensation**: $28.54/hour at 25 hours per week + Municipal Pension Plan, Extended Health and Dental benefits, vacation
and sick lea
