**Summary**

An Industrial Abatement Technician is responsible for removing hazardous materials from industrial buildings, equipment, and structures. They are responsible for ensuring that the work area is safe and free of hazards. They ensure that all hazardous materials are disposed of properly. The job requires awareness of industrial procedures, safety protocols, a level of physical fitness, and the ability to work in confined spaces.

**Job Duties**
- Removing hazardous materials from industrial buildings, equipment, and structures.
- Ensuring that the work area is safe.
- Work in compliance to all hazardous materials handling guidelines & prescribed safety procedures.
- Work in compliance to industrial site regulations, Ie., industrial plants and operations
- Comply with federal and provincial laws regulating waste disposal methods.
- Complete installation of containment and decontamination chambers for moderate and high-risk work activities.
- Remove hazardous materials from equipment, pipes, beams, boilers, and other industrial structures using appropriate hand and power tools.
- Wearing protective gear such as respirators, gloves, and suits.
- Co-operating with the site safety officer to maintain the site OH&S Program
- Following WHMIS Regulation
- Using specialized equipment such as air scrubbers, negative air machines, and HEPA vacuums.
- Working in confined spaces such as crawl spaces and attics.
- Work in a team or independently with an eye for detail and safety.

**Requirements**:

- Previous industrial work experience required (1 year minimum)
- Previous risk/abatement experience required (1 year minimum)
- Moderate to High-Risk Abatement Training can be provided
- Industrial safety training and certificates
- Valid driver’s license
- Clean Driver’s Abstract
- Bondable (pass criminal background check)
- Ability to work in a team environment.
- Must have CSA approved steel toe safety boots (other PPE will be provided)
- Must be clean shaven for the respirator fit test
- Must be willing to take necessary job skills or safety training as required

**Working Conditions**
- Ability to drive and visit projects covering a vast geographical area.
- Able to lift at least 50 lbs.
- Varied working conditions ranging from cramped areas to considerable heights.
- Work outside at various times of the year and experience a considerable range of environmental conditions.
- Good physical condition to carry materials and have the stamina to be on your feet for long periods of time.
