Job Summary
For the 2023 winter semester we will have five unpaid Co-op placement opportunities for students enrolled in the St. Lawrence College Human Resources Program. During this time each student will work with an experienced and knowledgeable HR professional who will ensure a mixture of interesting project work, as well as day-to-day client support activities.

**Job Description**:
**Opportunity #1 - Organizational Development & Learning**:
Embedded inside Human Resources is the Organizational Development and Learning team which creates custom and leadership learning experiences for staff and faculty at Queen’s University. Working under the mentorship of the Manager, Organizational Development and Learning the SLC student will take on the creative work of supporting training and goal development for an employee engagement survey, researching best practices in taking action from engagement survey results and creating resources designed to move an organizational towards a desired culture. Additionally, our student intern will be exposed to the design of in person and virtual workshops, learning data and connecting training data to metrics that matter to the university. There is also the opportunity to contribute to the strategic work being completed on a new Employee Lifecycle model which best describes and follows all employees on their journey with Queen’s.

**Opportunity #2 - Employee Wellness Services**:

- Updating the HR Website to ensure information is current and functional
- Updating the Resource binder within Employee Wellness Services
- Research and help develop an odds job program to assist those on medical leave
- Developing educational resources (toolkits) for employees and managers on sick leave and accommodation
- Developing mental health medical template forms to assist in file management
- Supporting in the development of ESW related workshops
- Researching organizational best practices related to wellness and disability at other universities and industries
- Analyzing data and developing reports
- Analyzing themes stemming from interview and/or focus group data
- Administrative duties within the office (filing, preparing packages).

The Facilities Department at Queen’s University proudly builds, maintains and improves campus facilities to create a safe and welcoming environment in support of teaching, learning and research. Facilities welcomes the opportunity to host a SLC human resources student placement.

Working under the mentorship of the Director, Human Resources, Facilities, the SLC student will be provided with the opportunity to be involved with employee lifecycle management by participating in the recruitment process, supporting the review and updating of the onboarding process, conducting stay interviews and exit interviews, and supporting equity and diversity initiatives. In addition, the SLC student will be introduced to other aspects of the HR profession such as HR administration, employee and labour relations, and training and development.

The SLC student will gain a practical understanding of a day in the life of an HR generalist with a focus on employee lifecycle management and will have the opportunity to influence HR initiatives though the lens of a student and future job seeker.

The Faculty of Law HR team is service-oriented and proudly fosters and promotes a welcoming, diverse, and inclusive working and learning environment. We provide dedicated and knowledgeable HR support to employees of the Faculty of Law as a trusted partner.

During your HR Work placement, you will learn Queen’s HR policies, procedures, and collective agreement provisions by performing a variety of tasks and gain exposure to the various HR functions while working with faculty, staff, and students. You will have the opportunity to assist with equitable recruitment and hiring processes and gain hands-on experience with PeopleSoft and other information management systems through data entry. In addition, you will research HR best practices including, but not limited to, onboarding and retention initiatives; develop/re-develop business process documentation; prepare learning material for management team meetings, and provide general support to the Faculty of Law HR team as required.
