Strategic Initiatives Manager, Anti Racism

**JOB PURPOSE**
This position will provide project management for the growth and development of strategic initiatives as determined by the Director, Community Impact & Investment. The Strategic Initiatives Manager (Anti-Racism initiatives) will oversee a Provincial portfolio that supports communities’ response to residents impacted by racist incidents. This will include grant management, capacity building, & relationship management. Effective and impactful evaluation & research of assigned portfolios is required not only to guide investment decisions and partnerships but create compelling impactful stories and data to inspire others to join in making outcomes better for community. In collaboration with internal departments Business Intelligence team and Helpline Services this role will guide United Way’s investment in Anti-Racism and anti-hate initatives.
**DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES**
1. Key Responsibilities: Evaluation Operational Functions
- Co-develops and implements a comprehensive evaluation plan, building on existing organizational assets (e.g., Outcomes Framework, Developmental Evaluation framework, strategic plan, program-level evaluations, etc.) of projects using a variety of evaluation methods.
- Promotes collaboration, involvement, and engagement in assessment, evaluation and learning across the Community Impact & Investment projects
- Engages with local, provincial, and national entities involved with evaluation and community development as required (e.g., to identify best practices, to contribute to knowledge building, to inform UWBC’s work)
2. Key Responsibilities: Capacity Building
- Increases organizational capacity to measure and document the learning needs of communities and the efficacy of programs in meeting their goals and objectives
- Promotes Community Impact & Investment (CII) culture of data collection, evaluation and learning
- Works in collaboration with relevant stakeholders (e.g., management, frontline staff with program planning roles/responsibilities) to implement the data strategies and standards.
3. Key Responsibilities: Strategic Initiatives
- Coordinates grant investments, capacity building, knowledge sharing, and reporting on a strategic initiatives portfolio as identified by the Director.
- Liaises between UWBC, partner organizations and community agencies, providing information and organizational development assistance.
- Assists with implementing engagement strategies and tactics that ensure consistent and open communications, and mutual understanding of mandates and goals.
- Participates in mobilizing the community networks to address issues in the identified portfolio.
- Provides expertise, knowledge, advice, and trend information on issues in the identified portfolio to other UWBC departments.
- Represents United Way on relevant task forces and networks.
- Identifies and create avenues for open dialogue in community to understand community aspirations, by seeking information from the community, and engaging in activities to promote United Way objectives.
- Works alongside local agencies, municipalities and other partners to promote funding options.
- Creates & maintains measurement approach to understand investment and refine data collection strategies.
- Liaises between UWBC, partner organizations and community agencies, providing information and organizational development assistance.
- Assists with implementing engagement strategies and tactics that ensure consistent and open communications, and mutual understanding of mandates and goals within anti racism work across the organization.
- Participates in mobilizing community networks to address issues
- Maintains and builds relationships with agencies, service providers, community representatives, volunteers, government representatives and other funders.
General
- Performs other duties related to the qualifications and requirements of the job.
- Leads direct reports setting expectations and priorities, assigning work, removing objective and ensuring goals are met
- May supervise up to 1 staff (Coordinator)
**QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS**
**Education**:
- University degree in Social Sciences, (Social Work, Sociology, Child, and Youth Care) or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
**Experience**:
- Minimum five (5) years' relevant experience including working with populations relevant to the area of strategic initiatives portfolio.
- Significant experience in research, analysis, and report and proposal writing are required
- Project management experience including the use of project management tools. Direct organizational development, program management, and social planning experience
- Experience with the social/not-for-profit is desirable.
- Project management experience and experience working with volunteers at various levels throughout the community.
