Feed your passion for sustainability, waste reduction, healthy soil, and connecting with people. The City of Edmonton is looking for a motivated student to engage residents about home composting and the 3Rs (reduce, reuse, recycle).

In this role, you will learn about composting, waste systems, and how to change waste behaviours. This will include supporting residents to compost at home, to build healthy soil, and to use Edmonton’s waste system. Your work will include influencing individuals, teaching groups, outreach, event planning, program planning, measuring performance, and analysis. As a sustainability educator & outreach student, you will gain skills from social marketing, leadership, landscape maintenance, and public education; all while building a sustainable Edmonton.

**As a core part of the team, you will**:

- Understand and communicate about Edmonton's waste system and how to reduce waste
- Understand the science of composting and methods to compost at home, at a community garden, and other settings
- Engage and teach various audiences, individuals or groups
- Host Compost School, including maintaining compost piles, growing plants, light gardening, and other self-directed work
- Support volunteers in the Master Composter Recycler Program
- Maintain numerous compost methods
- Maintain and evaluate composting at community gardens and demonstrations sites
- Write, edit and publish content about home composting, Edmonton's waste system, and reducing waste
- Provide guidance to participating volunteers
- Assist staff in other areas of waste programming as needed
- Maintain records and other administrative duties as required

**Qualifications**:

- Current enrollment at a post-secondary institution, in a work experience degree program
- Experience with public speaking
- Experience with customer service with an approach that is friendly and positive

**Conditions of Employment**:

- This position will be a combination of working from home and on-site at various City of Edmonton’s Compost School facilities.
- Valid Alberta Class 5 driver's licence (or provincial equivalent). Must arrange own transportation to be reimbursed in accordance with City of Edmonton policy. This may require business auto insurance.
- Hire is dependent upon a Police Information Check including Vulnerable Sector check satisfactory to the City of Edmonton
- Compliance with the City of Edmonton's safety standards for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), such as wearing CSA approved steel-toed boots.

**Additional Details**:
**Hours of Work**: 33.75 hours per week; Tuesday - Saturday (April 1- October 31), Monday - Friday (November 1 - December 27), with the ability to work days, evenings, nights, weekends and statutory holidays as required.

**Salary**:$22.799 - $26.599 (Hourly)
