- What you will doThe Officer, Accessibility Services and AODA Compliance is an advisor, champion and strong advocate for accessibility. Reporting to the Manager, Wellness, Engagement & Recognition, this role provides advice, guidance and support to ensure that The Ottawa Hospital provides goods, services and facilities that meet the needs of patients, volunteers and staff with disabilities.

Responsibilities include:

- Serving as an in-house consultant to staff and leadership in ensuring that all operations of The Ottawa Hospital are compliant with the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA);
- Monitoring, investigating and making recommendations for response to identified accessibility barriers and challenges throughout TOH identified by patients, volunteers, staff or family members;
- Ensuring that TOH is fulfilling all its reporting requirements as stipulated under the AODA / Integrated Accessibility Standards Regulation (IASR) and Ontario Human Rights Code (OHRC) requirements by leading the development and distribution of compliance reports, including the Accessibility Multi-Year plan, the Annual Report and the Bi-annual Compliance Report;
- Acting as Co-Chair, of the TOH Accessibility Committee;
- Supporting the coordination and implementation of corporate-wide accessibility strategic initiatives to meet program and committee-identified and legislatively mandated requirements and goals;
- Maintaining corporate accessibility promotion communication strategy in collaboration with the Communications department;
- Collaborating with the Learning and Leadership Development team on the design and delivery of Accessibility Training plans to achieve AODA compliance;
- Participating as an advisor on internal committees and discussions, including where accessibility of the new campus is discussed;
- As a member of the Equity, Diversity & Inclusion (EDI) Council, participating in conversations while representing and advocating for persons with disabilities.
- What you will bring- Three (3) year undergraduate degree in Diversity Studies, Disability Studies, Rehabilitation, Social Work, Adult Education, Psychology, Nursing or a related field;
- Five (5) years of experience in the following areas:

- Considerable community experience and credibility working with people with various disabilities and service agencies;
- Demonstrated success in facilitating/training groups in both official languages regarding disability related topics: inclusion, diversity, legislation, accessibility, barriers to inclusion, etc.;
- Demonstrated success in building collaborative goal-oriented partnerships across departments and disciplines, preferably in a health services context;
- Demonstrated experience in designing and delivering formal presentations to senior leaders in a large corporate environment;
- Experience with reading, analyzing, and interpreting research related documents, and then synthesizing the information into digestible and relatable formats
- Knowledge of, passion for, and demonstrated commitment to accessibility and accessibility-related issues;
- Strong understanding of disability and trauma, including invisible disabilities, not negating the diversity of disability, and support for people with differing abilities and disabilities;
- Knowledge of current and relevant legislation affecting the lives of citizens with disabilities including: the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, Ontario Human Right Code, Employment Equity, AODA, Integrated Accessibility Standards Regulation, Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), etc.;
- Working knowledge of the Ontario Building Code, National Fire Code, OH&S acts and regulations;
- Knowledge of cross disability related topics: history, language, stereotypes, myths, barriers, legislation, accessibility, accommodation, rehabilitation, etiquette, etc.;
- Knowledge of best practices in disability/accessibility awareness training;
- Knowledge of and relationships with various community stakeholders working with, serving or representing people with disabilities, for instance
