Halifax, Canada New Start Counselling Full time

New Start is a not-for-profit organization offering therapeutic counselling and services for individuals who have used abuse or violence within their relationships, as well as counselling for partners and former partners of clients. With offices in downtown Dartmouth and West End Halifax, New Start serves a culturally diverse population, often marginalized by poverty and racism, and includes both urban and rural communities. New Start’s offerings have recently expanded to include programming for fathers/father figures under the Fatherhood Matters umbrella as part of our new Community division. Additionally, we offer resource navigation and other programming based on the evolving needs of clients.

The Program Coordinator will work as part of the New Start team responsible for the delivery of Fatherhood Matters, providing services to individuals who identify as fathers or father figures. This may include group programming, workshops, and individual programming & support. The Program Coordinator must demonstrate sensitivity, compassion, and a non-judgmental attitude, as well as initiative, self-direction and teamwork. The Program Coordinator will build collaborative partnerships within the community and other parenting supports, and represent the organization as part of committees and networks as required. The Program Coordinator is also responsible for contributing to general New Start programming and participating in team meetings as required.

Qualifications:

- Demonstrated experience working with parents and families
- Demonstrated experience with program facilitation and evaluation
- Demonstrated understanding of a trauma-informed approach to service delivery
- Post-secondary diploma/degree in a human service field considered an asset
- Ability to work collaboratively with a professional team, as well as independently
- Ability to effectively manage a client caseload, including appropriate documentation
- Experience working with diverse communities and identities using social determinants of health lens
- Excellent knowledge of community resources and experience with service navigation
- Ability to establish and maintain personal/program boundaries, while providing supportive services
- Ability to foster positive working relationships with community partners
- Satisfactory criminal record check, First Aid & CPR-C training or willingness to obtain

Pay: $50,960.00 per year
