The Marketing and Communications Department at UBC Sauder leads initiatives to build the brand and reputation of the school, both in domestic and global markets, and develops marketing and communication strategies to promote business objectives, including recruitment, student experience, fundraising and alumni and community engagement. Key areas of responsibilities include brand stewardship, school and unit level marketing campaigns, corporate communications, and media relations.

The Social Media Specialist is responsible for supporting the Marketing and Communications team with the management and implementation of the school’s tactical social media initiatives and campaigns. With a sound knowledge of social media principles and community building, this role supports the use of social media to drive the school's business and communication goals and plays a key part in reputation management. Reporting to the Social Media Manager, the Specialist will work alongside the manager to consistently deliver an experience that clearly represents and supports the school’s culture, values and brand in a highly engaging and relevant manner.

Organizational Status

Reports to the Social Media Manager. Works with social media work learn students and other team members within UBC Sauder Marketing and Communications department.

Work Performed- Works closely with the Social Media Manager on the implementation and coordination of the UBC Sauder's social media strategy, initiatives and campaigns.- Creates engaging, informative, attractive and relevant content in text, image and video format.- Facilitates online conversations with users and responds to any questions and relevant comments.- Provides ongoing social media monitoring for the purposes of reputation management, potential issues and overall school reputation and reports on online feedback and reviews from community members.- Maintains the school’s social media calendar in coordination with marketing and communications colleagues with consideration for both user engagement metrics and web traffic.- Uses social media insights and data to make recommendations on new methods to attract prospective students and to engage with existing community members (students, alumni, etc.).- Suggests ways to optimize content.- Measures and reports on channel success.- Stays on top of the current best practices and technologies and makes recommendations for each social media platform.- Uses social media marketing tools to improve efficiency and manages all accounts effectively.- Establishes partnerships with various stakeholders on campus, at events, and in the community.- Undertakes other outreach projects in keeping with the mandate of the position and performs other related duties as required.
