**Public Programming Specialist - Permanent, Full Time**

Heritage Park has an immediate opening for a full-time Public Programming Specialist. Under the direction of the Interpretation Manager, this position is part of a team that assists in the day-to-day coordination of interpretive programming for the Gasoline Alley Museum and Historical Village. This position will also collaborate with other staff to research, develop and implement new program initiatives with a focus on creating an engaging guest experience.

**Duties and Responsibilities**:

- Assists with day-to-day coordination of interpretive programming for the Gasoline Alley Museum and Historical Village including opening and closing procedures, daily organization and delegation of work assignments;
- Conducts research to support the development and implementation of daily interpretive programs and new initiatives;
- Contributes to the review and evaluation of programs;
- Assists with coordination of pre-booked guided tours and may be called upon to deliver tours or programs;
- As directed by the Interpretation Manager, coordinates visiting performers and presenters;
- Prepares materials and venues for programs including coordinating logistics with other Park departments;
- Participates in the recruitment, training scheduling, supervision, mentoring and evaluation of seasonal staff and volunteers including seasonal Public Programming Lead Hands;
- Ensures the proper care, handling, and security of artifacts and other objects associated with the assigned exhibits;
- Provides support to other departments and lines of business within the facility including collaboration with special event programming.

**Job Requirements**:

- Post-Secondary education and/or training in related areas (Western Canadian history, historical interpretation, museum studies, communications, tour guiding);
- Post secondary education or experience teaching children, youth or adults is considered an asset;
- At least two years experience in the development and delivery of interpretation programs using a variety of techniques;
- Prior experience supervising and mentoring staff ;
- A keen interest in and knowledge of the history of Calgary and Southern Alberta
- Excellent verbal and written communication as well as public relations skills; comfortable working with audiences of all ages;
- Organized, flexible, adaptable, and capable of independent study, exhibit mature judgement, and have a proven ability to work well with others; and
- Basic computer skills to utilize programs such as Outlook, Word, and Excel and conduct research online and using traditional methods.

**Hours of Work**:
35 hours per week. Flexibility to work a variety of shifts, including evenings and weekends is preferred
