**Position summary**

Mechanical Inspections/Commissioning Officer reports directly to the Key Maintenance Initiatives Mechanical Foreman. This position encompasses the responsibilities and understanding of a Journeyperson plumber/pipefitter and steamfitter along with a number of specialized duties.

**Duties**

Inspections & Commissioning:

- Performs cursory inspections during construction to confirm approved drawings and specifications are being adhered to.
- Uses/develops commissioning matrices to ensure codes, specifications and guidelines are being followed and installations are being executed per contract expectations.
- Details any project/installation deficiencies and relays this information in point form to the Commissioning Agent/Project Manager on a timely manner that is conducive to keeping up with construction project schedules.
- Acts as the Owner’s representative from a TIM perspective while liaising with the U of A construction project management team on construction development and project close up.
- Ensures safety code reviews have been completed and all inspections/commissioning activities have been completed prior to the university accepting ownership of finished projects.

Shutdown Coordination:

- Works with all base building service shutdown requestors (operations personnel, TIM tradespeople, General Service Workers, Facilities Service Partners and external contractors) through the established and evolving business processes to determine the impact of the request on mechanical and other related base building systems. The evaluation is conducted with consideration to ongoing maintenance construction activities being performed by either TIM tradespeople or U of A construction project management team contractors.
- Approves shutdown requests.
- Leads participate or may perform energy/service isolations as required by the Owner.

Design, Review & Coordination:

- Is the primary TIM contact for the U of A construction project management team on matters related to the development of new and renewed plumbing/pipefitting/steamfitting base building systems.
- Is a key collaborator, along with the Plumbing Shop Foreman, for the ETS team on matters related to the development of new and renewed plumbing/pipefitting/steamfitting base building systems.
- Reviews mechanical base building systems drawings and specifications during the various stages of engineering development to determine any mechanical variances to University Specifications and Guidelines; pinpoints concerns related to future maintenance challenges or impacts to existing systems/buildings not addressed in the design.
- Leads the work of receiving, reviewing, redistributing, approving and replying on planning development documentation generated as a result of projects managed by the U of A construction management team. Collaboration with ETS in the development of AMO design review feedback to the U of A construction project management team.
- Works with the design development stakeholders to develop new strategies/efficiencies to incorporate new construction into and around existing infrastructure.

Maintenance Planning & Asset Management Assistance:

- Assists on the development of preventive and predictive maintenance planning at the request of the KMI Mechanic
