Purpose of the job:
The Manager of Train Operations is accountable directly to the Senior Manager of Operations - Metrolinx Contract and will ensure that train movements are operated safely, efficiently and economically over the entire Metrolinx system.

Main Responsibilities:
- Directs all operations activities to ensure safe, prompt and courteous service to Metrolinx’s clients in accordance with corporate policies, practices, government regulations, Canadian Rail Operating Rules and special instructions.
- Assesses all train performance reports and interfaces regularly with host railways rail traffic control centers as well as railway operating officers to ensure coordination and daily performance of train operations and to immediately respond and correct deviations to the operating plan.
- Ensures that a training/refresher program is developed and in place to upgrade and/or maintain a high level of competence for Locomotive operators.
- Provides leadership and direction to subordinate Supervisors on all train operations.
- Performs operational audits on the train service and the operating crews.
- Ensures that all crew related incidents are properly reported and investigated with appropriate action taken to prevent a recurrence with full report to the Assistant General Manager.
- Ensure that Supervisors are visible on trains and that the proper level of employee proficiency monitoring is attained to maintain a high level of employee compliance and competency.
Main Required Competencies:
Experience
Mandatory:
- Experience of minimum 3-5 years GO/UP commuter service
- Extensive knowledge of current Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA)
- Proficient in Excel
Desirable:
- Knowledge of ESA and RAC work rest rules
