**Position Overview**

Reporting to the Projects Leader, the Production Planning Leader is responsible for creating and maintaining the team and system used to establish and monitor schedules to ensure the timely, efficient and cost-effective production of ordered goods.

**Key Responsibilities**

Demand Planning / Order Processing / Capacity Management
- Analyze incoming order data providing early capacity warning to sales and production departments and ensure resolution is achieved.
- Coordinate re-planning activities needed to address upset conditions.
- Champion the on-time completion, shipment and invoicing of the customer order backlog with all departments involved.
- Champion the lead time key performance indicator(s).
- Engage production operations in resolution of both short term (overtime; order delay) and long term (additional shifts; equipment) bottleneck concerns.
- Oversee planned events process to track set up and maintenance time and the associated capacity consumption.
- Participate in pre-production project planning processes.
- Work with maintenance team to schedule equipment preventative maintenance repairs.
- Monitor and follow up on backlog to ensure sales and invoicing targets are met and/or exceeded.

Inventory Control
- Timely communication with purchasing team on any unique or extraordinary planned inventory usage.
- Champion the accuracy of the bill of material to ensure correct material allocation and usage in completion of customer orders.

Team Development
- Distribute work tasks to planning team members using equitable and fair methods that recognize individual strengths and provides opportunity for growth.
- Deliver regular feedback on performance recognizing good achievements and correcting poor performance.
- Ensure all work tasks are competently completed.

Continuous Improvement
- Lead cross functional team activities to improve order process - production planning work flow.

**Qualifications (Education, Experience, Training)**
- Post-secondary education in Operations Management
- Project management experience certificate or equivalent experience.
- 5 - 7 years of experience in a position coordinating production capacity
- Experience working within building products, construction or manufacturing environments
- Previous production planning experience in a short lead time and made to order environment
- Previous management experience coaching, motivation and building teams
- Hands on-experience with change management and continuous improvement initiatives
- Lean training is considered an asset
- Experience working with ERP/MRP

**Required Knowledge, Skill and Abilities**
- Solid understanding and knowledge of supply change activities, manufacturing processes and timelines, manufacturing decisions based upon capacities and constraints.
- Demonstrated understanding of blueprint reading, material requirements and manufacturing procedures.
- Strong knowledge of ERP/MRP systems.
- Ability to work independently as well as with cross functional teams.
- Demonstrated effective written and oral communication skills with all levels of the organization.
- Good organization skills - able to develop and execute a plan of action.
- Strong problem identification and resolution skills.
- Outstanding multi-tasking and time management skills.
- Ability to build and motivate teams to produce quality work within tight timeframes.

- Pro-active resolution to lead time and capacity conflicts between Sales, Order Processing and Production.
- Leadership of continuous improvement activities.
- Effective use of resources to accomplish work assignments.

**Working Conditions**

This position works primarily in an office environment and occasionally within our manufacturing facility.

- Comfortable indoor area.
- Comfortable environment with exposure to some dust, dirt or other conditions which might produce mild discomfort.
- Frequent, short periods when it is necessary to pay close attention to the monitoring of sights and sounds.
- Moderate mental demands due to one or more conditions, which are present in the job. There may be noticeable pressure from simultaneous priorities and deadlines.

- Frequent, short periods when it is necessary to pay close attention to the monitoring of sights and sounds.
- Safety sensitive environment with mobile equipment and overhead cranes.
