Manager, Centre for Social Accountability

Situated in the Centre for Social Accountability leadership, the Manager will play a critical role in supporting the development of the Centre’s research and community-engagement activities. This position will work collaboratively with the Academic Director of the Centre, the Centre leadership team, research affiliates, and research partners to provide critical operational and managerial support to the Centre. The Manager will play an active role in establishing and advancing yearly priorities and ensuring active communication between the Centre, NOSM University, and all Centre collaborators. The Manager will oversee delegated activities including, but not limited to, fiscal, human resources, facilities, agreements, reporting, and contributing to the success of NOSM University’s first research Centre.
**Responsibilities**:
Tasks include but are not limited to the following:
- Provides operational leadership and expert-level day-to-day management support, ensuring that activities and decision-making remain consistent with the values and priorities of the Centre.
- Participates in the creation of operational plans that align with key collaborations locally, nationally, and internationally.
- Assists with the evaluation activities of the Centre and the preparation of annual reports and fiscal reports.
- Supervises the work of staff, manages performance expectations and deliverables, imposes disciplinary and non-disciplinary measures as deemed appropriate and ensures that appropriate training and development is provided.
- Develops and maintains delegated budgets, ensures fiscal responsibility for all delegated expenditures and submits required reports. Provides recommendations to the Academic Director on allocations and efficiencies across the Centre budgets.
- Supports project initiatives and the development and ongoing management of activities related to the Centre.
- Works collaboratively with other NOSM University units with respect to space requirements, equipment, supply procurement, and data compliance.
- Represents the Centre at committee and working group meetings as required.
- Reviews and comments on policy and for recommending/implementing amendments and changes to guidelines and procedures.
- Support and coordinate partnership engagement activities, ensuring regular communication and updates.
- In collaboration with other NOSM University units, assists with the development of a communication plan to positively publicize the Centre.
- Contributes to the development and implementation of strategic research initiatives
- Act as a member of NOSM University’s Management Group
- Performs other duties as assigned
**Qualifications**:
**Education**:
- A Master’s degree in a health discipline or relevant field from a recognized university with Canadian accreditation or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
- A PhD would be considered an asset.
- Project Management Certification is considered an asset.
**Knowledge, Skills and Abilities**:
- Minimum of five (5) years of related experience is required
- Demonstrated project management experience working in an environment coordinating multi-site, multi-stakeholder projects
- Experience working the public sector and/or an academic environment an asset
- Experience working in a unionized environment.
- Advanced experience in planning, organizing and directing activities.
- Ability to travel across Northern Ontario. A valid driver’s license is required.
- Good knowledge of university structure, policies and procedures considered an asset.
- Experience with NOSM University’s reporting systems is an asset.

- Must demonstrate a high level of initiative, be proactive and have excellent interpersonal skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills for communicating with service providers, community partners, and faculty, as well as assisting in drafting correspondence, reports, proposals, and related documents.
- Ability to prioritize competing demands, be well organized and possess very good planning skills to meet deadlines.
- Must be capable of working independently and as part of a team as required.
- Excellent knowledge of common computer software packages (e.g., Microsoft Word and Excel) and ability to learn and utilize project-related software as required. Must have excellent general computer skills with an ability to use and contribute to the development of electronic systems for managing information.
- Highly motivated with the ability to work autonomously and use good judgement when making decisions.
**Language**:
- Must be able to communicate effectively in English (verbally, written and comprehension)
- French/Indigenous language skills would be considered asset
