Affirmative Ventures is an innovative non-profit organization that assists individuals with a mental health diagnosis achieve lifelong independence. Our mandate focuses on the foundational pieces of life
- home, jobs and community.

Social Enterprises include, Petstuff on the Go, Mort’s Convenience, AV Property Maintenance AV Janitorial Services and Venture Thrift.

The Way to Work is a 12 week Employment Program that blends employment workshops with on the job training with our belief, _“Helping People Work Makes a Difference”. _

Affirmative Ventures has been providing financial literacy workshops to the people we serve as of 2012 that we refer to as, _“The Skills to Pay the Bills”._

Affirmative Ventures uses a holistic approach to services with our motto, _A Home. A Job. A Friend_

Mental Illness often affects youth before they have the chance to finish their education and for many it will result in a life long battle with dependence and poverty which in turn leads to inadequate housing and homelessness. To address these challenges, Affirmative Ventures has established two housing programs, “Affirmative House and Affirmative Homes”. With Affirmative House being independent living and Affirmative Homes shared accommodations, these two housing models create opportunities where isolation and seclusion is eradicated and recovery can begin.

**Position Description**

**Position Title**: Employment and Housing Coordinator

**Position Scope**:This position has three major functions.

1. Working alongside the Job Developer and Job Coach to provide participants with on the job training and support with Affirmative Ventures Social Enterprises including Community Employment

2. Providing Housing Support

3. Employment and Financial Literacy Workshop Facilitation
- **Social Enterprises**:_
- Involved in the daily operations of Affirmative Ventures Social Enterprises
- Ensure the minimum operating standards are maintained
- **Job Coaching Activities**:_
- Provide participant with on the job training and support
- Complete the necessary data collection and paperwork
- Develop and implement individual training plans
- Schedule performance updates every 20 working days
- Maintain adequate contact with family and support networks
- Assist participants to establish job objectives and demonstrate how and when they will be achieved.
- **Job Developer**:_
- To build a working relationship with businesses in HRM
- Make contact with employers to secure paid employment for participants
- Complete employer information sheet, job description and job analysis for all positions secured
- Maintain long term follow up with employees and employer.

**Housing Support**:
Support tenants through weekly house meetings as well as individual work/ education goals.

**Employment and Financial Literacy Workshop Program Delivery**:

- Schedule, customize and facilitate employment and financial literacy workshops
- Review and update employment and financial literacy curriculum as required
- Review and incorporate feedback from program evaluations to strengthen programming

**Administrative Tasks**:

- Keep daily employment notes, monitor training plans and prepare employment assessments.
- Maintain an employer data base including an employment and financial literacy matrix
- **Qualifications, Experience and Competencies**:_
- Degree or certificate in adult education, social work, human services and/or business related experience
- Knowledge of Adult Learning Principles with strong facilitation skills
- Proven knowledge and experience with job coaching
- A passion for financial literacy education and an understanding of the financial barriers faced by people who live on low incomes will be key.
- Ability to motivate others
- Experience in working with community agencies
- Proven organizational skills and talents
- Strong communication skills and an ability to work cooperatively with others
- Interest and desire to work in a business training environment.
- Comfortable working with standard desktop software and working knowledge of the internet.
- Require a class 5 license and have access to vehicle.
- “Can Do Attitude” - active desire and interest in the growth of a program and business
- Good sense of humour

**Position Reports to**:Program Manager

**Hours of Work**:

- Flexible work week
- Evening and weekend work required

Pay: From $40.00 per hour

Expected hours: 35 per week
