The opportunity
Are you a social media ace comfortable in a fast-paced environment? With an avid interest for all things social media and a knack for cultivating online communities, you know the latest memes, top influencers, and the best filters to use for every occasion.
As the Social Media Assistant, some of your responsibilities include:
- supporting digital communications to enhance Toronto Metropolitan University’s presence and reputation through a multitude of social media platforms
- maintaining key social presences on major channels including, but not limited to Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn or Instagram.
- collecting data on social media activities and reporting findings to the team
- participating in the development of content
Key responsibilities and duties
The duties below may be assigned as needed, additional responsibilities and back-up support of a comparable nature may be required.
- Engages online community via various social media platforms.
- Identifies appropriate opportunities for online engagement within the Toronto Metropolitan University community and stakeholders to reinforce brand messaging and/or establish brand reputation.
- Maintains presence and reputation through social networking sites; initiating activities and sustaining campaigns and conversations through social media and posting updates or responses.
- Monitors and gathers information from major related social networking sites to identify trends, best practices, brand mentions, etc.
- Supports and maintains multiple social media accounts.
- Acts as a contact for public and stakeholder relations; responding to questions and engaging in dialogue via social media where appropriate.
- Prepares and composes all public social media correspondence for approval before posting/uploading. Determines content of responses based on established procedures and well-defined practices; deviations or complex responses are referred to appropriate staff.
- Participates in the development and maintains social media content.
- Actively participates and collaborates with staff to identify content opportunities to be channeled through social media platforms; gathers information based on discussions or direction from other team members.
- Proactively curates content aligned with an existing social media content strategy.
- Gathers metrics on social media activity (e.g., tracking hashtags/tweets; number of new followers, likes), as required.
- Presents collected information into simple summaries, reports or briefings.
- Generates and maintains internal and public social media directories.
**Qualifications**:
Minimum level of education and specialty/discipline required
- In progress or completion of a post-secondary degree program in Marketing, Public Relations, Journalism, Creative Industries, Professional Communications or in a related field is required.
Required skills and demonstrated knowledge
- Strong communication skills, as well as computer skills
- Demonstrated knowledge of various social media channels/platforms; including but not limited to Facebook, TikTok, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram, LinkedIn, Hootsuite
