The Indigenous and Community Connections Branch (ICC) supports Children's Services and its partners in improving outcomes for Indigenous people in Alberta through cultural understanding, relationship building, and strategic leadership. The Community Connections and Culture Section is accountable for working with internal and external partners to ensure ongoing collaboration and relationship building takes place in order to have strong partnerships that develop innovative and sustainable solutions to address social-based challenges and opportunities facing Indigenous people, as well as ensuring there is strong cultural education for Children's Services staff to assist them in providing cultural responsive services to children and families they come into contact with.

Reporting to the Indigenous Connections and Culture Director, the Manager provides direction and support to the unit by gathering, analyzing and synthesizing knowledge and information from a variety of sources to develop and implement cultural understanding strategies to foster a more culturally respectful and culturally inclusive organization. The Manager has a project management role in implementing, coordinating, maintaining, and enhancing the Indigenous Cultural Understanding Framework (ICUF). This also includes providing strategic analysis and recommendations that contribute to the implementation of ICUF and delivery of ICUF training for all Ministry staff.

The Manager also supports the unit in building partnerships between Children's Services and First Nations, Métis, and Inuit communities and organizations at multiple levels, including leaders, community members and Elders, to ensure the Ministry is well-informed and guided in its ability to effectively develop, implement, and enhance Indigenous cultural training plans and actions.

The Manager supports the Director in coordinating unit activities, building a ministry culture that is client-centered and culturally sensitive, building a positive unit culture including appropriate staff development and recognition, and identifying and leveraging opportunities for the unit to add value to the department. The Manager must understand the ministry and the Government of Alberta processes, especially consultation and engagement processes, and related tools in the context of the broad range of the Ministry's programs, services, supports and policies.

The Manager leads a team of professional staff in undertaking all aspects of collaborative work with Indigenous communities to develop, implement, and enhance training curriculum under ICUF with the goal of increasing collective understanding of Indigenous perspectives. The Manager also ensures that an Indigenous lens is represented within the Ministry and other ministries and generates feedback and input that can contribute to system wide changes to improve outcomes for Indigenous children, families and communities. The Manager contributes to and coordinates collaborative initiatives with other divisions and Ministry partners in terms of providing expert guidance with cultural competency; cultural protocol, Indigenous and partner engagement, communication, and relationship-building.

**Requirements**:

- Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Native Studies, or a related field.
- Minimum 5 years of related Experience working with Indigenous communities as well as experience in managing, coaching, planning, assigning work and evaluating staff.
- Experience in relationship-building with internal and external stakeholders including elected officials, Ministry and Government of Alberta partners, community organizations,

Indigenous leaders and communities, and other levels of government; facilitating sessions.- Experience in Indigenous cultural understanding training and curriculum development is preferred.
