The Animal Care and Park Rangers Section is seeking an individual who possesses strong leadership and relationship building skills and is highly adept at program development, implementation and evaluation. Reporting to the Director of the Animal Care and Park Ranger Section, this position provides management, direction and support for the operation of the Animal Control Peace Officer unit. This portfolio includes the enforcement and operational activities of the City of Edmonton Community Peace Officers tasked with ensuring public safety and security for citizens, employees, and City assets; delivering animal welfare programs and services and promoting responsible pet ownership in our community.

- Provide leadership and coordinate the services of a uniformed Community Peace Officer (CPO) enforcement unit. This includes deployment of resources, leading the unit to meet provincial and federal legislative requirements, conduct and reporting standards set out by Public Safety and Emergency Services Alberta, establishing processes and procedures, designing and implementing programs and services, and providing expertise and mentorship to employees
- Lead and supervise a team of Community Peace Officers including hiring, training, coaching, mentoring and monitoring staff performance
- Authorize high level enforcement actions and design deployment models and strategies to support Joint Forces Operations with the Edmonton Police Service, Law Enforcement Agencies and other partners
- Ensure investigation of public and Council inquiries and concerns, City departments and agency enforcement requests
- Link strategic planning with operational service delivery to ensure goals and objectives meet targets, measures and objectives as identified in the Branch strategic plan
- Conduct regular reviews of the unit’s performance and assist in identifying problem areas, support, training needs, officer safety issues and the effective utilization of resources
- Develop an annual plan identifying the resources required to meet service level demands; provide feedback and input in the annual budget forecast and preparation
- Build a respectful workplace culture, embracing diversity and promoting inclusiveness on your team
- Assist in developing unit specific KPIs, and ensure the activities of staff are coordinated, monitored, measured, evaluated and reported
- Work through issues related to labour relations, pay administration and staff performance
- Work in collaboration with the Edmonton Police Service, Public Safety and Emergency Services Alberta, Alberta Fish & Wildlife, and the City of Edmonton Law Branch on a variety of matters
- Conduct public engagement activities and attend media interviews as required
- Build and maintain positive relationships with Edmonton’s diverse communities, the public, and internal and external stakeholders
- Other related duties as required

**Qualifications**:

- Bachelor’s degree in Justice Studies, Criminology, Sociology, Business, or a related discipline; equivalent levels of education and experience may be considered
- A minimum of seven years customer or public service related security management experience including three years of experience in the law enforcement field at a supervisory level
- Experience must include program development, planning and evaluation, budget management, supervision, research, and media relations
- Experience working or volunteering in your community or with racialized people and other equity seeking groups would be considered an asset
- Experience working with Indigenous communities would be considered an asset
- Knowledge of another language is an asset
- Knowledge of the Peace Officer Act, the Peace Officer Ministerial Regulation, Public Safety and Emergency Services Alberta Policy and Procedures, the FOIP Act, the Canadian Evidence Act, and other Federal, Provincial and Municipal Acts
- Demonstrated understanding of building and supervising respectful, inclusive and high performing teams with strong supervisory, leadership, mentorship, problem solving, conflict resolution and change management skills
- Knowledge and experience working with diverse communities
- Experience working or volunteering in your community or with racialized people and other equity-deserving seeking groups would be considered an asset
- Experience working with Indigenous communities would be considered an asset
- Demonstrate service excellence, embracing diversity and promoting inclusiveness
- Demonstrated understanding of racism and discrimination as it pertains to law enforcement, and how bias can influence behaviour and decis
