**TITLE**: Activation Coordinator

**POSITION STATUS**: Full Time - Permanent (Non-Union)

**SCHEDULE**: 35 hours per week, Mon-Fri 8am -4pm, Saturdays 1 to 2 times per month

The Bob Rumball Canadian Centre of Excellence for the Deaf (BRCCED) is a provincial leader in the Deaf community. Under direction of the Director of Seniors' Assisted Living Services, the Activation Coordinator is responsible for planning and leading recreation and leisure activities and services to promote the well being of each senior client in the Assisted Living Program. The Activation Coordinator works a flexible 35-hour week and may be required to work some evenings, weekends and the occasional statutory

PRIMARY DUTIES
- Plan and implement a monthly community Congregate Dining Event, varying the theme/activity/food/visual and educational components each month, in connection to the theme
- Lead a minimum of 3 varied fitness activities per week (curling, beach ball etc.)
- Lead seniors in a variety of craft activities
- Offer a secondary activity option for those not interested in the main activity (access to the Wii, board games etc. in the Seniors' Lounge)
- Responsible for set-up and clean-up of daily morning coffee and tea for seniors (Seniors' kitchen)
- Adhere to policies and procedures related to the transportation of consumers, this will include the use of Centre vehicles, Complete logs, schedules, monthly reports and annual reviews
- Adhere to all Centre policies, including Centre policies and procedures, Occurrences reporting policy, departmental policy manual and fire manual etc.
- Supervise and evaluate students and volunteers
- Plan, coordinate and lead activities (group and individual) including any activities health, fitness and programs offered special guest presenters (eg. Yoga instruction)
- Complete program planning sheets for each planned activity, follow up evaluation and record statistical information
- Plan, Lead and Maintain a recognition program for clients' birthdays and anniversaries;
- Meet with clients during the orientation process (i.e. ‘Welcome Wagon' along with one or two other Tenants)
- Identify and assess clients' needs, goals and preferences, as related to leisure activities;
- Maintain ongoing documentation on clients related to individual goals and ongoing assessments;
- Provide appropriate activities related to clients sensory losses specifically for deaf and deaf-blind residents
- Attend and participate in monthly staff and team meetings as a member of an interdisciplinary team
- Plan for the intervention needs of deaf-blind clients involved in activities
- Develop a monthly schedule of activities

QUALIFICATIONS
- 1 - 2 years of experience working with older adults
- First Aid/CPR Training an asset.
- Knowledge of Mental Health challenges an asset.
- Ability to respond and react appropriately in emergencies.
- Knowledge and experience working within the Deaf community and fluency in ASL OR strong commitment to engage in professional development to build skill and knowledge in ASL, Deaf culture and supporting Deaf or hard of hearing individuals and their community
- Excellent communication, literacy and interpersonal skills
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
- Valid driver's license
- Good organizational skills;
- Experience working with and supervising volunteers.
- Demonstrated experience in computer literacy (e.g. Word, Excel, Outlook)
- French language/LSQ an asset
- Respects the goals, philosophy and objectives of BRCCED
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
