**Duties and Responsibilities**:
Working under the direction of the Assistant Manager, Co-op Operations, the Co-op Student Advisor, the primary point of contact for co-op students, is responsible for the success of Carleton’s co-op students through effective delivery of co-op preparation and advising programs for undergraduate and graduate co-op students. Additionally, the Coop Student Advisor provides input into the development of the co-op preparation program and delivers the on-line course. S/he advises undergraduate and graduate coop students with regard to the career development process including self-assessment, researching occupations, making informed career decisions, marketing themselves, helping students develop strategies for success on the job and helps with the transition from school to work and work to school. They organizes and implements supplementary workshops designed to support and enhance the online programming to ensure that all co-op students are well prepared to enter the workforce. The co-op student advisor is responsible for student success on the work term and conducts site visits with students.

**Qualifications**:
**The incumbent must possess the following qualifications**:

- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills;
- Excellent interpersonal and advising skills;
- Experience in motivating and educating individuals and groups, particularly postsecondary students, on the technicalities of a job search, including resume review and interviewing techniques;
- Must have a strong customer service focus and possess strong problem-solving skills;
- Ability to work individually and as part of a team;
- Ability to multi-task with tight deadlines;
- Proficient with student information database software (e.g. Orbis) and MS Office;
- Proven ability to communicate with tact, empathy and discretion;
- The ability to maintain confidentiality is essential;
- Knowledge of undergraduate and/or graduate programs and co-op programs;
**Education and Experience**:
**The above is normally acquired through the completion of**:

- 4-year University Degree in a discipline related to social sciences, business, education or social work; or the equivalent of a Bachelor’s degree with extensive related experience.
- This position will require the use of an automobile and must possess a valid driver’s license.
