**_What you’ll do:_**
Working as a paramedic, every shift is guaranteed to be different. Some of the most challenging things you will face will include working effectively with a team in emotionally charged situations, communicating with distressed family and bystanders, clearly documenting complex events, and practicing diplomacy and empathy when your role may be misunderstood. Some situations will be unpredictable and demand independent, quick decisions where there may not be a clear “right” answer. In this role, you can expect to:
- Provide patient care and transportation by ambulance in pre-hospital emergency situations, always using critical thinking and safe work practices.
- Advocate for patients through effective communication with colleagues, allied health care professionals and public safety partners.
- Be responsible for the safe operation of ambulances.
- Identify issues and strategies to address complex program or system-wide issues which will enhance service delivery and patient care.
**_What you bring:_**
Qualifications:
- Current PCP license to practice in the province of British Columbia (issued by EMALB); those with an EMR license issued by EMALB are also encouraged to apply.
- Class 1, 2 or 4 BC driver's license (or out of province equivalent), or the ability to obtain within 6 months from your start date.
- Current driver's abstract demonstrating a safe driving record.
- Work permit for Canada (or able to obtain).
- **_Any eligible EMR licensed applicants that do not have a PCP license and who accept full-time or regular part-time PCP-level paramedic positions will be required to successfully complete paid PCP training as a condition of employment along with a three (3) year return of service. It is the applicant’s responsibility to ensure they meet the school’s pre-requisite requirements for enrollment of PCP program._**
