**ROLE**

Reporting to the Associate Vice-President of People, the Director of Human Resources is responsible for leading all strategic human resources and occupational health and safety programs. An important contributor to MAHC’s strategic and operating plans, the Director will inspire and support the Hospital’s strategic vision and enable plans by strengthening the human resources presence across a range of functions including: strategic human resources planning and implementation, total compensation and benefits administration, labour relations, recruitment, selection and retention, training and development/clinical education, occupational health and safety, wellness, and, organizational development.

This role is strategic and multi-dimensional, contributing to the continuing evolution of the Hospital’s organizational culture while supporting an ambitious, exciting, and inspiring strategic agenda and vision to guide the organization through its journey to a new hospital and position it for long-term success.

The Director, Human Resources provides leadership and operational direction to the human resources team on all aspects human resources and occupational health and safety, with an emphasis on developing and maintaining positive labour relations with our four bargaining partners (Ontario Nurses Association, Service Employees International Union, and, Ontario Public Service Employees Union - Paramedical & Office and Clerical).

**Major Responsibilities**:
Strategic Human Resources Leadership
- Ensure that the resources of the organization (human and operating) are aligned with the organization’s Mandate and its Mission, Vision and Values as they are developed and adjusted from time to time.
- Proactively seeks opportunities to strategically profile MAHC and enhance its organizational persona/profile and thought leadership.

Stakeholder Management/Relationship Building
- Maintain a positive, accountable, and collegial working relationship with the CEO and Senior Management Team, unions and staff, characterized by candour and open communication. Working within clearly defined roles, the Associate Vice-President, People and the Director of Human Resources and Organizational Effectiveness will develop mutually acceptable processes for direction setting, decision-making and issues management.

Labour Relations
- Coordinating activities related to grievances and arbitrations, including negotiation of settlements.
- Research and/or directs the research for management bargaining proposals, providing insightful and cogent cost/benefit analysis considering benchmark data, legislative framework and fiscal accountability.
- Establishes and promotes internal labour relations processes for streamlined delivery of HR services.

Human Resources and Organizational Accountability
- As a Certified Human Resources Executive, the Director of Human Resources will maintain a thorough understanding of human resource related legislation, regulations, Hospital collective agreements and update human resources and occupational health and safety policies and procedures as they may change from time to time.
- Preparing budgetary information as requested by the Associate VP of People, Finance and manages appropriate expenses in compliance with approved budgets.
- Consistent with the strategic direction, exemplify bold vision and innovation for the betterment of people and care.

**REQUIRED EDUCATION & CERTIFICATION(S)**
- Baccalaureate degree in Business / Human Resources or a Master’s Degree in Business / Human Resources or a business related discipline
- CHRL (Certified Human Resources Leader)

**REQUIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE(S)**
- Minimum of 5 years of previous related experience in senior management leadership positions, ideally acquired within a complex service delivery organization(s) ideally regulated, and ideally involved in the provision of professional services.
- Experience in a public sector / not-for-profit unionized environment or healthcare related sector required.
- Demonstrated skills in change management and team building are absolutely required.
- An affinity for, and knowledge of, rural health care is essential.
- A management style that is respectful, honest, participatory, empowering and enabling.
- An ability to forge constructive and durable linkages with other healthcare and community support organizations.
- A reputation for openness, integrity and trustworthiness.
- Excellent interpersonal skills in negotiation, conflict resolution, and consensus building.
- A healthy respect for “quality of work-life” issues.
