**Packaging Development Specialist (for a Contract role)** to join our Team

**POSITION SCOPE**: The Packaging Development Specialist designs, tests and implements packaging designs that are an integral part of the organization’s Product Development process. This individual also reviews and improves existing packaging designs and manages new product launches from development stage to production launch. The Packaging Development Specialist also develops, designs and tests standards and guidelines for developing packaging solutions for Apollo’s products. They work with internal resources and packaging suppliers to achieve functional packaging goals.
**RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES**
- Packaging Testing : Create and follow test methods and SOPs related to packaging development and provide technical support to suppliers. Create and verify detailed packaging specifications, packaging BOM (bill of materials), material compatibility and dispensing characteristics.
- Packaging Design & Artwork : Collaborate with designers and suppliers to design all labels and boxes to capture customer’s expectations and various regulatory requirements of the international territories we are distributed in.
- Packaging Changes : Fill out packaging change request forms, develop and maintain a system to effectively track all changes. Identify and implement cost saving initiatives related to packaging materials, labor, efficiency, transportation, and storage.
- Production Runs : Support Engineering & Production teams to assess commercial line feasibility for new primary packaging and coordination of line trials. Provide final release of packaging to production, on-site support during new product launches and provide training to floor personnel. Work with appropriate internal stakeholders to drive continuous improvement, cost reduction actions and/or to address potential risks and resolve non-conformities when identified.
- Vendor Management : Maintain relationships with current vendors and source and develop relationships with potential new vendors. Audit/Review co-packers and suppliers, evaluate vendor performance and drive necessary corrective actions to ensure deliverables will be met.
- Administration : Compile packaging library and update as needed, including item codes, product specifications, technical drawings, inventory codes, finished goods codes, etc. Document and keep track of packaging information and changes.

**JOB SPECIFICATIONS**:

- College/University degree specializing in Mechanical, Chemical or Industrial Engineering/Technologists, Package Design or a similar discipline.
- Two (2) to three (3) years consumer packaged goods experience with a proven history of taking new products to market.
- Computer knowledge and skills - Illustrator, Photoshop, MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) and Adobe Acrobat.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills both written and verbal.
- Experience with regulations and GMP requirements.
- High level of organizational skills, including attention to detail, ability to multi-task and capable of managing projects simultaneously.

**KNOWLEDGE/EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE**:

- A Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Packaging Engineering is required.
- Must have two (2+) or more years of experience in Industrial and Consumer packaging.
- Knowledge and understanding of Packaging Design Validation Standards (ISO, ASTM etc.), drafting and specification standards is essential.
