**What is the Indigenous Summer Institute (ISI)?**
The Indigenous Summer Institute (ISI) is a free program hosted at the University of Saskatchewan (USask). It is designed to mimic campus life as a USask student. Participants can expect to sleep in dorms, eat at the University cafeteria and be exposed to various colleges and units through fun hands-on activities
Participants will explore the beautiful city of Saskatoon through activities such as visiting museums, eating at various restaurants, and catching a movie.
**Background**
Established by the Office of the Vice Provost, Indigenous Engagement (OVPIE), the Indigenous Summer Institute was inspired by Dr. Angela Jaime (Phd), USask's Vice-Provost of Indigenous Engagement, who started a similar program when she was at the University of Wyoming. The University of Saskatchewan's Indigenous Summer Institute successfully piloted in August 2024 and has been hosted annually since.
The purpose of the institute is to increase exposure and access to pathways toward post-secondary education, establish mentorship opportunities for Indigenous students, increase cultural connections, strengthen communication, academic, and relationship building skills through shared experiences, and inspire high school aged Indigenous youth to pursue post-secondary opportunities.
**Why participate?**

**What is expected of you?**
- We are seeking First Nations, Metis and Inuit mentors We are recruiting from all backgrounds and colleges at USask.
- Mentors will be expected to participate in the implementation of the program activities. Mentors will be placed into groups throughout the Summer Institute and encourage youth participation in activities.
- Mentors will need to commit to the full 24/7 hour experience during the week of the ISI.
- Mentors are expected to participate in training and assessment before, during, and after the duration of the program. Mentors are expected to make time for appointments and other personal commitments outside of this time.
- Mentors are obligated to follow the rules and regulations according to the University of Saskatchewan procedures. The review of these procedures is a part of the mandatory training and all mentors must participate.
**Qualifications**:
- Ability to work with both high school students and staff.
- A team player with great communication.
- Be available to travel with the USask Summer Institute team and participants to and from communities on August 10 th and August 16 th, 2025.
- Ability to pass a Vulnerable Sector Criminal Record Check.
- Be a current or recent alumni of the University of Saskatchewan.
