**The opportunity**:
The IT Data Coordinator (GIS) is responsible for overseeing the IT aspects of the CTA73 National Burial Register project. This includes managing the staff responsible for Increasing the technical knowledge and capabilities of GIS technology such as ArcGIS within the NCTR and community partners. They will also develop an interim public facing map showing the general locations of publicly disclosed burial sites associated with the children who passed away at residential schools (not exclusively burial sites on residential school sites) while gathering information that will be used to develop the back-end register. The IT Data Coordinator will also develop an archival storage strategy to be used to preserve burial investigation information.

**The qualifications and experience we’re looking for**:

- Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field required.
- Minimum 6 years of experience working in software design, development, analysis, maintenance and support, with enterprise level and/or critical systems within a university, government, or heritage environment required.
- Minimum 3 years of experience working with high volume data sets from diverse sources preferred.
- Minimum 3 years of experience with data projects of highly sensitive, personal information preferred.
- Minimum 3 years of experience performing large scale data migration projects, including the automation of workflows regarding data cleaning, crosswalking, and database ingestion and exporting preferred.
- Minimum 3 years of experience developing custom code using coding languages such as python preferred.
- Minimum 2 years Linux user and administration experience, including software deployment from repositories & packages, familiarity with compilation from source preferred.
- Experience working with GIS systems, both open source and proprietary preferred.
- Experience participating in software development teams utilizing Agile methods preferred.
- Experience working with Survivors, Indigenous communities, and academic researchers regarding access to records and information preferred.
- An acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Strong critical thinking and decision-making skills required.
- Excellent project management skills and strong ability to prioritize required.
- Firm grasp on IT infrastructure and operations best practices required.
- Conscientious attention to detail is required.
- Excellent working knowledge of computer systems, security, network and systems administration, databases, and data storage systems required.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain positive working relationships with IT departments and outside vendors required.
- Ability to identify, evaluate, tailor, and implement vendor-supplied software required.
- Knowledge of Indigenous history in Canada, including residential school history required.
- Knowledge of test driven development (TDD), creating/executing test script and test plans would be an asset.
- Knowledge with automated testing software would be an asset.
- Familiarity with Object Oriented methodologies would be an asset.
- Familiarity with cloud computing such as Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud Platform or Microsoft Azure would be an asset.
- Satisfactory work record, including satisfactory attendance and punctuality, is required.
