**RESPONSIBILITIES**:
**Payroll**
- Prepares full cycle payrolls (salary and hourly) according to predetermined schedules, maintaining compliance with current legislation and collective agreement.
- Ensures accurate collection of data and processing of day-to-day payroll/HRIS updates including changes to pay rates/levels and entitlements, new hires, terminations, leaves, changes, etc. maintaining and updating employee profiles on the HRIS.
- Calculates and processes data input for payroll processing: adjustments, special payments, provincial grants, benefits, ROEs, union dues and other deductions; Prepares payroll related cheques as needed.
- Prepares all year-end reconciliations and related reporting (T4, Taxable Benefits, Pensions, United Way Charity, etc.).
- Generates and validates standard and custom reports as needed or requested.
- Maintains accurate records of payroll transactions for audit purposes; maintain internal controls and strict confidentiality.
- Seeks and implements ongoing process improvement initiatives, including full utilization of ADP Workforce Now.
- Provides back-up support when team members are away

**Benefits and Pensions**
- Maintains all relevant benefit and pension requirements for new hires, terminations, and leaves within a timely manner. Verifies and remits pension contributions.
- Educate staff on the benefit and pension plans. Support plan improvements where needed.
- Assist staff with payroll, benefit, and pension related inquiries with a high level of customer service standards; coordinating with external parties when necessary.
- Provides basic interpretation of the Collective Agreement, Agency Policies and plans as it relates to payroll, benefits, and pension

**QUALIFICATIONS**:

- Bachelor Degree or Diploma in Business, Accounting, Human Resources or related field
- Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) certification
- Minimum 3-5 years of preparing/processing payroll, benefits and pension administration, and HRIS and/or payroll software experience (ADP Workforce Now preferred)
- Proven intermediate to advanced technical skills utilizing Microsoft Office Suite
- Experience working in a unionized environment and administering a collective agreement is an asset
- Strong organizational capabilities to manage multiple projects with the ability to deal with multiple demands and priorities effectively
- Proven ability to effectively develop, organize and maintain data management systems
- Proven strategic and analytical problem-solving skills with attention to details
- Ability to communicate effectively and clearly and to demonstrates a high degree of initiative and problem solving with keen attention to details
- Highly skilled to manage confidentiality and privacy diplomatically
- Highly motivated to continually strive for excellent results including on-going improvements to work processes
- Excel in team environment and ability to work with mínimal supervision
- Demonstrated ability to build and maintain effective work partnerships with colleagues of diverse backgrounds, abilities and identities
- Acceptable Vulnerable Sector Police Reference Check

**SALARY**:Payroll and Benefits Specialist** **Scale ($63,000 - $72,000 per annum - 5 Levels) with Competitive Benefits Package (health & dental), Defined Pension plan, and paid time off entitlements (starting at 20 vacation days & 3 float days)**:
