**Description**:
Reporting to the Assistant Director, Human Resources Operations & Real Estate Partnerships (OREP), the Payroll & Benefits Specialist is responsible for providing payroll services and support to dynamic and fast paced clients within the OREP portfolio. The Specialist is a primary contact for payroll and general human resources inquiries and works together with the wider HR team in order to support HR activity, build team communications and provide best in class service to our clients.

Key responsibilities include: running bi-weekly and monthly payroll, providing in-depth HRIS advice and support; responding to basic inquiries related to applicable collective agreements and HR protocols and practices; preparing routine correspondence; providing frontline benefits information and advice; conducting benefits orientation sessions in group and individual settings; providing administrative support to the HR team; producing various reports for administrative analysis; and conducting research and compiling data in support of special projects. The Specialist is also responsible for the integrity of HRIS data for assigned clients.

**Qualifications**:
**Education**:

- University degree in a relevant discipline, plus completion of related professional development courses in pursuit of CHRP designation, Payroll Certification or equivalent combination of education and experience.

**Experience**:

- Minimum five (5) years related payroll, HRIS experience with an understanding of human resource management principles and approaches.
- Experience in a fast-paced dynamic payroll environment.
- Experience with various type of payroll and timekeeping systems (e.g. SAP, UKG products)
- Experience providing front line payroll support to a large group of employees.
- Specialized knowledge of benefit and payroll policies, procedures and processes.

**Skills**:

- Proficient computer skills, including MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Advanced multitasking and prioritization skills.
- Demonstrated experience working with databases and/or HRIS/Payroll systems.
- Sound knowledge of legislation relevant to employment practices and payroll administration.
- Excellent documentation skills.
- Ability and willingness to learn new processes and systems.

**Other**:
Strong client service orientation with an awareness of and sensitivity to diversity; good judgment; accuracy and attention to detail; ability to work independently but is also a strong team player; demonstrated initiative; and deal effectively with multiple priorities while meeting all deadlines; personable, great attitude. Excellent communication, consultation, analytical, and organizational skills; energetic; attentive to detail; strong interpersonal skills with ability to deal with all levels of administrative and academic staff; creative problem solving skills; good judgment and ability to maintain confidentiality. Knowledge of University processes and organizational relationships is a definite asset.
