Trans-Northern Pipelines Inc. (TNPI) operates regulated pipelines to safely transport the refined petroleum products (gasoline, diesel, aviation, and heating fuel) used by Canadian businesses and consumers every day. Reporting to the Manager - Security, Environment and Emergency Management, the **Team Lead, Environment **is accountable for the development, training, implementation, and continuous improvement of the business’s environmental protection program (EPP), including its related policies, manuals, standards, plans, procedures, forms and tools to ensure full compliance with all legislative and regulatory requirements. This position is expected to participate in the business’s Management of Change (MOC) and project planning processes and provide environmental leadership to the organization, including training, compliance inspections/assessments, investigations, and reporting. This will be accomplished through coordinated efforts with company leadership and through day-to-day engagement with Engineering, Regulatory Affairs and Operations staff. This role covers for all TNPI and APPL operational geography.
The **Environment Team Lead** will work with their team of specialists to drive continuous improvement of environmental compliance. This position stewards the applicable environmental protection program in TNPI’s Operational Excellence Management System (OEMS).
**OEMS**
This position is accountable for ensuring that all aspects of work comply with safe work practices, all applicable codes, standards, regulatory requirements and TNPI’s Operational Excellence Management System (OEMS).
**Security, Environment and Health & Safety**
This position performs their job effectively safely, securely, and in a manner protective of the environment, and complies with TNPI Safety and Environmental Absolutes.
**KEY RESPONSIBILITIES**
**Environmental Protection Program**
- Custodian of the Environmental Protection Program and Operational Excellence Management System (OEMS) Element 13B - Environment Protection.
- Responsible for the development, training, implementation, and continuous improvement of a corporate EPP that integrates with the corporate OEMS and meets or exceeds regulatory requirements.
- Responsible for the identification and review of relevant environmental aspects, their applicable legal and other requirements, and develops actions to mitigate environmental risks.
- Establishes clear and measurable EPP goals and targets including KPIs, manages timelines for the achievement of goals and targets, monitors/measures performance and prepares progress reports.
- Identifies and manages budgets for resources to implement the EPP.
- Recommends, prepares, and leads development and implementation of EPP training programs for employees.
- Leads and/or conducts internal annual EPP effectiveness and management reviews/audits.
**Environmental Compliance Oversight**
- Responsible to be informed of all applicable environmental regulations and industry best practices.
- Assesses the environmental impact of regulatory changes to operations and communicates requirements and potential risks to leadership.
- MOC Subject Matter Expert (SME) to ensure environmental requirements and corporate strategies are compliant.
- Environmental SME for programs/projects.
- Provides environmental analysis and trends to identify corrective action plans for continuous improvement.
- Monitors compliance with regulatory requirements, reports gaps and develops corrective actions.
- Monitors external EPP Audits further to Canadian Energy Regulator Onshore Pipeline Regulations (OPR).
