The System Optimization Policy Branch at the Ministry of Transportation is seeking dynamic individuals to undertake policy analysis and research related to the development and implementation of policies, and delivery of programs to support high-profile transportation initiatives and government priorities. **The Branch**
The System Optimization Policy Branch develops tools and policies to ensure Ontario is making the best, most effective use of its transportation system. The branch ensures that the transportation system is used, managed effectively and infrastructure investments are optimized, and also ensures transportation and land use are effectively integrated. The branch provides information that can help government, business and people make better decisions around mobility.

**What can I expect to do in this role?**: In this role, you will:

- Plan and conduct research and analytical studies and data analysis related to the development of transit and transportation program delivery initiatives and operational policy
- Participate in large concurrent transportation programs, providing technical direction, guidance and training
- Determine and forecast funding scenarios for proposed and existing funding programs
- Process payments for funding program recipients
- Prepare reports, briefing notes, house notes, tour notes, and communication information that address specific transportation, land development, socio-economic and/or environmental issues

**How do I qualify?**:
**Technical Knowledge**: You have:

- Knowledge of program and policy development processes to analyze and prepare policy and program options and recommendations
- Knowledge of policy and program directions and processes to recommend on stakeholder issues
- Knowledge of planning processes, economic theory, municipal structure, and multi-modal transportation theory and principles to conduct transfer payment and other funding program and operational policy studies
- Ability to determine social, economic and environmental impacts of operational policy, program initiates and program delivery on the ministry and its transportation objectives
- Knowledge of transit and transportation funding programs processes, requirements, implementation and governmental procedures to determine eligible expenditures for transit funding programs

**Research, Analytical and Problem Solving Skills**: You can:

- Conduct research to assess research requirements and determine data sources
- Demonstrate experience with research, data gathering and statistical analysis methods to develop study designs and procedural methods, evaluate study results, and recommend transit concepts
- Assess funding eligibility-related issues and provide various funding options for existing and proposed funding programs

**Communication and Interpersonal Skills**: You have:

- Consultation skills to provide guidance to internal and external stakeholders regarding the eligibility and steps needed for approval of their program funding submissions
