Gerstein Crisis Centre provides voluntary, non-medical 24/7 crisis intervention through a range of services and initiatives, including our community Mental Health Crisis Intervention Team and Crisis Beds, Mental Health and Justice and Women and Homelessness Short-term Residential Crisis Beds and Crisis Management Team, and the Concurrent Crisis Management and Follow-up Team. In September 2021, Gerstein Crisis Centre and Toronto Police Service launched a one-year collaborative pilot project that locates a GCC Crisis Intervention Worker in the TPS 911 Communications Services call centre, with the goal to facilitate a diversion from police response of mental health crisis calls to a community-based crisis response. Through this initiative, callers to 911 experiencing non-emergent mental health-related issues will be quickly connected to mental health crisis workers for intervention and support.

**Successful applicants will have**:

- At least five years of experience working in community mental health, and/or crisis intervention or experience in a related field;
- A demonstrated capacity to provide crisis intervention and utilize de-escalation strategies and interventions;
- A demonstrated ability to provide suicide risk assessment and interventions following the ASIST model;
- A demonstrated ability to work with issues related to substance use and concurrent disorders within a harm reduction framework;
- A demonstrated understanding of issues related to involvement in the Mental Health and Justice System;
- A demonstrated ability to adapt interventions to ensure equity, access and accommodation.
- A demonstrated ability to adapt interventions to a diverse client group (ranging in age and experiences.);
- A broad understanding of all the factors that impact an individual’s mental health and well-being including the social determinants of health, trauma, poverty, homelessness, Racism and oppression
- An extensive working knowledge of community supports available in the City of Toronto;
- A demonstrated capability to be flexible and to work under pressure;
- A demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively within and across teams;
- A demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with clients and other agencies and make appropriate use of resources;
- A current and working knowledge of relevant legislation including the Mental Health Act and P.H.I.PA.
- A valid Ontario ‘G’ Driver’s License is an asset
- Working knowledge of OCAN assessments is an asset

**Please note**:

- Gerstein Crisis Centre is a 24/7 organization and scheduled shifts may include weekdays, evening and nights as well as weekend shifts. Although consistent shifts will be scheduled in advance, with sufficient notice, all Crisis Intervention Workers should be prepared for a schedule change.
- We are particularly interested in hearing from individuals who represent the cultural diversity of Toronto, Black and Indigenous, LGBTQ2S+ individuals and those with lived experience of the mental health system.
