Relief staff are assigned on as “as needed” basis. The relief worker provides support to the maintenance department when staff are absent or situations where temporary additional staff is required. The Relief Building Services worker provides direct custodial services to Merrymount Children’s Centre. The worker is responsible for completing scheduled routine tasks in cleaning, minor repairs of the property, assistance on preparation of the property for special events and completing all assigned work in accordance with high standards of cleanliness and safety.

RESPONSIBILITIES
- Reports any conditions of potential physical danger arising from the property in a timely manner to the Director.
- Checks the building, all corridors and rooms for issues
- Changes light bulbs as needed
- Locks and unlocks doors in the building as assigned
- Vacuums, sweeps and damp-mops floors as assigned
- Vacuums upholstery, couches, chairs, cushions and cube chairs
- Cleans washrooms including toilets, bathtubs, shower areas
- Cleans carpets, strip waxes and buffs floors as assigned
- Dusts, polishes all furniture, wall prints, desks, workstations
- Tidies all common areas, lobby, group rooms, boardroom
- Cleans and disinfects appliances in the staff room and kitchenette/dining room areas
- Cleans windows throughout the facility
- Empties all garbage throughout the facility
- Maintains custodial rooms, maintenance office, basement maintenance area, garbage areas
- Completes daily laundry - bed linens, towels, cleaning cloths etc.
- Cleans bedrooms in the residential program
- Carries out tasks as assigned related to movement of furniture, mats, indoor, outdoor equipment as directed
- Carries out minor repairs of property/furniture/equipment as directed
- Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director

QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum of Secondary School Diploma
- Familiarity with general maintenance skills in painting, drywall, basic plumbing, carpentry etc
- Demonstrated experience and ability in manual skills.
- Ability to read and write English
- Valid driver’s license
- Capacity to work within a team in a social service organization/adaptable to the presence of young children
- Vulnerable sector police check
