**Position summary**:
Relief Child Care Staff are assigned on an “as needed” basis in the Crisis Residential/Respite Program. The Relief Worker covers shifts in the program when staff are absent or situations where temporary additional staff are required. Relief staff provide care to the children including attention to physical, emotional, social, and cognitive aspects of development.

Please note that this position is unionized.

**Qualifications**:
1. Diploma or degree in Child and Youth Work.

2. Previous experience working with children 0 -12 years of age in a residential setting is preferred.

3. Demonstrated effectiveness working with and relating to children in the assigned age range(s).

4. Demonstrated effectiveness in working with children at risk for or experiencing mental health needs that affect their functioning in some areas.

5. Demonstrated awareness and ability in utilizing a family-centered, strength based and trauma informed approach.

6. Demonstrated ability to plan and implement programs and activities for children focused on building resiliency, capacity and coping strategies, mindfulness, social skills and life skills, emotion regulation skills, etc.

7. Good communication skills: active listening, courteous, friendly, respectful, empathetic, responsive, etc.

8. Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team.

9. Current First Aid and CPR Certificates.

10. Crisis Intervention Training (Safe Management Group) certificate.
