As Sooke continues to grow and develop, the District recognizes the importance of strong organizational leadership in delivering the very best of services to its residents and visitors. Therefore, the District is seeking an accomplished local government professional as their Chief Administrative Officer responsible for managing the constantly changing and increasingly complex daily affairs of one of Vancouver Island's most desirable and promising communities. This position is ideal for seasoned professionals, with an opportunity to move to a beautiful area of the province and do rewarding local government work in a District that is strategically managing growth and tapping the potential of a developing community.

As Chief Administrative Officer you will report to, and work collaboratively with, Council in developing policies, programs and strategies that address the unique needs of the community. Much work has already been completed on the Official Community Plan and a 2030 Climate Action Plan and several Master Plans are in place. You will assume leadership responsibility for District operations and provide a high level of service to the community and residents. Working with a dynamic team you will help shape the District’s future with an ambitious agenda of strategic priorities and will have the opportunity to make a significant contribution to the community.

You are a highly credible, authentic leader and mentor with a proven track record. You have been responsible for providing strong leadership to high performing teams and you are effective in a fast paced, growing community. You should have a deep understanding of the principles of good governance, as well as the ability to build consensus and collaborate effectively with elected officials, community stakeholders, and residents. You communicate a clear vision, are decisive and values based and can lead a senior management team that ensures Council policies and programs are effectively implemented. You are passionate about organizational well being. You inspire confidence in others and bring exceptional interpersonal, communication and strategic planning skills as well as a commitment to service, results and the execution of strategy.

You enjoy and are effective at engaging and building respectful and trusting relationships with the T’Sou-ke and Scia’new Nations, as well as local groups, businesses, and other governments. You understand the importance of first nations relationships, the collaboration needed to correct past wrongs, and prioritize reconciliation.

You have a bachelor’s degree in business, public administration, or a related discipline and seven or more years of progressive senior leadership experience in complex multi-stakeholder local government environments. You demonstrate sincerity, honesty, respect, empathy, and appreciation. You share and are guided by the values of our organization: respect, compassion, accountability, leading by example and service excellence. You are recognized for your positive local government contributions and are a catalyst for positive corporate change.
