**Position Title**
- Applied Research Technician III**Position Summary**
- The Applied Research Technician III provides support to Red Deer Polytechnic Applied Research Projects in the Centre for Innovation in Manufacturing (CIM-TAC) and Energy Innovation Centre (EIC).
- This position provides support to faculty/staff members engaged in specific research projects by performing data entry and analysis, contributing to the research design, research support such as gathering information, conducting tests and experiments, reporting and service support such as loading, unloading, monitoring and maintaining equipment, preparing solutions and monitoring inventories. Advanced skill levels involve tasks of greater complexity and require greater independence of action.**Position Responsibilities**

**Research Support**
- Performs standard tests or experiments
- Assists in gathering test samples and recording of results
- Compiles bibliographic information
- Observes and records activities following identified protocols
- Coordinates research by advertising for study participants, booking appointments, conducting sessions, recording responses, and performing follow-up as required
- Checks completeness of data of other applied research project associates and makes corrections when necessary
- May provide a small amount of service support to research projects.

**Data Entry and Analysis**
- Performs data input
- Conducts focus groups and interviews
- Collects data using complex survey instruments or techniques
- Performs complex qualitative and quantitative analysis
- Summarizes statistical data
- Reports finding in summary form

**Research Synthesis and Dissemination**
- Prepares literature reviews and reports
- Writes draft sections of research papers
- Assists with proposals and grant development
- Prepares graphs and data for slides and presentation
- Presents research results to groups
- Searches for relevant research papers from topics provided - compiles information from literature searches

**Required Qualifications**
- Two (2) years of post-secondary training, completion of a community college certificate including trades apprenticeships or equivalent.
- More than 6 months up to one year of similar work experience
- Completion of course work in targeted area.
- Proficient in Internet research/navigation, Microsoft Office suite
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience using statistical software such as SPSS
- Experience taking field notes, reading maps and using survey equipment

**Preferred Qualifications**
- Three (3) year undergraduate degree, three years of University or equivalency.
- Experience working in the Energy Innovation Centre
