**Global Banking and Markets**

Global Banking & Markets provides a full range of investment banking, credit and risk management products and services relevant to the financing and strategic development needs of our clients. Our products include debt and equity financing, mergers & acquisitions, corporate banking, institutional equity sales, trading and research, fixed income products, derivatives, energy, foreign exchange, and precious & metals. We also cross-sell the full range of wholesale products and services offered by the Scotiabank Group.

**Purpose**
- Leads and oversees Accounting Team in Canada ensuring business strategies, plans and initiatives are executed / delivered in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures.
- Responsible for the delivery of process innovation and continuous improvement initiatives across multi-jurisdictions and play an important role in helping foster a culture of sustainable change.

**Accountabilities**
- Leads and drives a customer focused culture throughout their team to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems, and knowledge.
- Review and understand the current Trade Finance Operational and Accounting processes and identify gaps in accounting processes and controls.
- Implement accounting process improvement & accounting controls to mitigate risk.
- Posting of accounting entries on daily basis and make accounting corrections based on requirement.
- Review and improve daily and monthly reporting. Develop reporting as required.
- Responsible for escalation of long outstanding items.
- Identify unreconciled position in GL and make adjustment to rectify it.
- Perform month end Trial Balance review and reconcile all GL in Trial Balance.
- Review amortization and accrual month end processes and reconcile any outstanding balance under amortization and accrual account.
- Perform various reconciliation between different systems used for Trade Finance and Supply Chain Finance.
- Responsible for transfer pricing data preparation and submission as per defined schedule.
- Review exceptions reports and suggest adjustment to resolve it.
- Document accurately trade finance & supply chain finance accounting processes in the Standard Operating Practice, as and when updated.
- Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
- Creates an environment in which their team pursues effective and efficient operations of their respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.
- Builds a high performance environment and implements a people strategy that attracts, retains, develops and motivates their team by fostering an inclusive work environment and using a coaching mindset and behaviours; communicating vison/values/business strategy; and, managing succession and development planning for the team.

**Requirements**:

- University degree in Accounting, Finance or Commerce
- CPA designation or in pursuit of designation is preferred.
- Minimum 10 years of financial accounting or auditing experience
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office systems
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work and effectively communicate with all levels of management.
- Strong problem-solving, analytical, and decision-making skills.
