**Salary**: $4,274.26 to $5,427.68 bi-weekly ($111,558 - $141,662/year)

**Role Responsibilities**:
The **Public Lands Appeal Coordinator** serves as Chair of the Public Lands Appeal Board (PLAB) under the Public Lands Administration Regulation (PLAR), oversees the fair and efficient resolution of appeals related to public land decisions.

Duties include but not limited to:

- Administer all aspects of the appeals process, ensuring compliance with legislation, natural justice, and procedural fairness.
- Chair hearings and provide strategic leadership to the Board, fostering collaboration and innovation.
- Develop and implement policies, procedures, and business plans to support the Board’s mandate.
- Draft and oversee publication of decisions, maintaining clarity and legal accuracy.
- Promote stakeholder engagement and mediation to resolve disputes effectively.
- Provide expert advice to the Minister, Board members, and stakeholders on legislative and regulatory matters.

**Qualifications**:
University graduation in Law, Environmental Studies, Public Administration, or a related field, supplemented by seven years progressively responsible experience in administrative law, appeals processes, and regulatory frameworks. Related experience or education may be considered as an equivalency on a one for one basis.

**A valid Class 5 driver's license is required.**

**Required**:

- Expert in administering appeals processes with a focus on fairness and compliance.
- Skilled leader in developing policies and strategies for efficient Board operations.
- Proven ability to chair hearings and manage quasi-judicial processes.
- Strong knowledge of legislation, natural justice, and procedural fairness.
- Experienced in drafting clear, legally sound decisions and reports.
- Adept at fostering collaboration among stakeholders and promoting mediation.
- Strategic advisor to senior leadership on regulatory and policy matters.
- Committed to maintaining the integrity of Alberta’s public land governance.
- Demonstrated leadership and strategic planning experience in a quasi-judicial or public sector environment.
- Proven expertise in mediation, stakeholder engagement, and managing complex, high-stakes disputes.

**Assets**:

- Knowledge of ministry business plan, organizational structure, and GoA policies and priorities related to public land management.
- Understanding of the Public Lands Administration Regulation, in particular sections related to recreation management, public land use zones, and disturbance management.
- Advanced understanding of issues and trends relating to land use and natural resource management in Alberta and beyond.
- Knowledge of policy development process, planning process and public consultation/engagement methodologies and techniques.
- Knowledge of project management methods and processes.
- Knowledge of socio-economic assessments and economic analysis.

This position is a full-time permanent opportunity in Edmonton.

This position works Monday to Friday, 8:15 AM-4:30 PM, 36.25 hours a week.
