- As per applicable collective agreement**Position Summary**:To provide comprehensive supports to Indigenous patients/ residents of the Interlake-Eastern RHA that includes advocacy, navigation, relationship building, interpreting and facilitating health education for clients with major emphasis given to language and cultural differences. The primary goal of the Indigenous Health Advocate is to ensure cultural safety for Indigenous patients during their stay and throughout the discharge planning process.

The position of Indigenous Health Advocate functions in a manner consistent with, and supports the mission, vision and values of the Interlake-Eastern Regional Health Authority.

**Qualifications**:

- Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent.
- Completion of post-secondary education in social services or health-related program would be an asset.
- Minimum five years’ experience in the Healthcare setting.
- Counseling or mediation training would be an asset.
- Experience working with the Indigenous communities in a health-related field.
- Ability to accurately translate and speak English/ Ojibway/ Cree an asset.
- Knowledge of Indigenous communities, provincial and federal services/policies i.e.: Health Canada (FNIH), NPTP, NIHB.
- Ability to inter-relate constructively with staff, physicians, patients, residents and their families.
- Knowledge of Rural Programs & Services within Acute Care Sites.
- Good interpersonal and communication skills.
- Basic knowledge and experience in computers preferred.
- Good understanding of medical terminology is an asset.
- Exceptional organizational problem-solving skills.
- Effective written and oral communication skills.
- Valid Manitoba drivers license mandatory.
- Mental and physical ability to meet the demands of the position.
- Given the cultural diversity of our region, the ability to communicate in more than one language would be considered an asset.
- Proficiency of both official languages is essential for target and designated bilingual positions.
- Completes and maintains a satisfactory pre-employment security check.
- Satisfactory employment record.
