**Inspector 2 - Construction Management Services**
This position is responsible to perform on site inspection and supervision of contractors retained by the Region of Durham for the construction of infrastructure projects, to ensure that all obligations of the contract are completed by the contractor as detailed on the contract documents. The Inspector ensures that accurate records are kept, quality control and assurance is maintained, and all applicable standards and specifications are met or exceeded. Reporting to the Supervisor,
The incumbent will:
- Inspect sites of Regional infrastructure construction projects
- Act as a Regional representative on construction sites, communicate with the contractor to ensure compliance with the contract and all applicable standards and specifications while maintaining expected quality control and assurance
- Maintain accurate records of payment quantities and completed work
- Assist in resolving unforeseen construction and/or design related problems
- Liaise with the public, Regional departments, Ministry of Labour, utility companies, consultants and local municipal staff
- Ensure a safe working environment for the construction workers and the public by monitoring compliance with the Ontario Health and Safety Act (OHSA) and other applicable safety directives
The successful applicant will possess:
- A two-year diploma in Civil Engineering Technology or related discipline
- Registration or be eligible for registration as a Technician with O.A.C.E.T.T.
- Several years of work-related experience
- Knowledge and understanding of Ontario Provincial Standards and Specifications (OPSS), Ontario Provincial Standard Drawings (OPSD), Regional Design Guidelines and Specifications, Wastewater and Potable Water Systems, appurtenance testing and chlorination of watermains, survey and construction materials technology, General Conditions of Contracts and Special Provisions, Ministry of Transportation Traffic Control manual and Occupational Health and Safety Act
- Experience working with Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams)
- Excellent verbal and written communication, time management, negotiation, conflict resolution, problem solving and organizational skills
- A valid Ontario Class 'G' Driver's Licence and the daily use of a reliable vehicle
