**ABOUT THE ROLE**

SOS Children’s Villages Canada, in partnership with funders and key stakeholders, is developing a youth empowerment initiative to be implemented in SOS International program locations in East and South African regions (ESAF). The program mission is to provide under-served youth with the opportunity to develop the skills that are essential for independence and success as young adults. Implemented locally, programming will offer academic assistance, career guidance, experiential learning, skills training, and scholarship opportunities to participants.

The International Program Manager will support the formulation and implementation of the Youth Empowerment Program within the chosen countries. The role will collaborate with a counterpart Program Manager based in Nairobi and will support ESAF teams to ensure the successful rollout of the Program. Activities essential to this role include project design, project management, financial review and reporting, and progress report communications to the funder.

**The ability to travel to Nairobi for a 1-week formulation workshop in March 2023 is a requirement of the position.**

**Core Responsibilities**
- Support the drafting of a detailed program proposal (including program tools) and preparation for program launch.
- Support the program kick-off in late 2023/2024 in the implementing countries.
- Convene and chair regular (monthly, quarterly) project meetings to discuss project and financial issues, disseminate minutes and follow up on action items.
- Provide technical guidance in the development of appropriate monitoring and evaluation plans in partnership with the ESAF Regional team.
- Review and finalize narrative project reports in coordination with other team members and partners, ensuring reporting is submitted as per donor requirements.
- Validate financial reports prepared by the country teams to ensure quality and compliance with contractual requirements, and SOS Children’s Villages policies and procedures.
- Conduct periodic field visits to validate progress reports.
- Flag issues of concern arising from program monitoring. Develop and follow-up on steering measures.
- Support business development processes, including proposal development and project amendments.
- Ensure organizational safeguarding, gender and environmental policies are promoted and applied across the program.
- Represent SOS Children’s Villages Canada and the Youth Empowerment Program in internal and external forums, networks and donor events as requested.
- Ensure proper communication flow between the implementing parties & stakeholders
- Support the Programs and Partnerships team and other SOS Children’s Villages Canada projects as needed.

**Desired Skills and Qualifications**:

- Minimum 5 years experience working with an international development organisation on project management.
- A degree/diploma in international or community development, education, project management, international studies, or a related field.
- Experience managing a multi-year consortium project through different project life-cycle phases.
- Experience with Results Based Management (RBM), children & youth programming, and gender sensitive programming.
- Ability to review, analyze and synthesize information to produce high quality project documents, including donor reports.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills to develop strong working relationships across cultural and organizational boundaries.
- A passion for, and knowledge of, child-focused international development, child rights and youth empowerment.
- Valid passport and ability to travel internationally (2 to 3 trips per year).
- Available for travel in Nairobi in early March 2023.
