Shop Supervisor

ContainerWest is looking for a front line supervisor at our shop on Mitchell Island near South Vancouver. We build shipping container based structures and industrial enclosures. This is **primarily a welding shop** but we also do carpentry, electrical, insulating and painting. We are looking for a front line leader to **coach/train and generally keep people out of trouble, maintain safety and keep a clean shop.** We have in house engineers who are actively involved in building the projects.
Your purpose is to help the team improve quality and productivity. You are the shop floor leader and will help the tradespeople succeed: constantly confirm quality and correct positioning, coach on best methods, provide the right tools, know strengths and weaknesses of each team member and manage accordingly, set clear targets and measure progress. Support engineering and translate drawings when required (but give them feedback to improve designs). Stop jobs that are getting off track, and lead a plan to get back on track. Open and close the shop. Live our core value of customer service. This is not an office job.
**Key Skills**:
1. Effectively work with both trades people and engineers. Must have solid industrial experience, welding or metal fab background an asset.
2. Solid attendance and work ethic.
3. Ability to organize and prioritize.
4. Willingness to make decisions and take responsibility.
**Goals**:
1. Meet or beat the labour estimate. Meet quality standards.
a. Clean workplace with no clutter. Materials and tools stowed in logical order.
b. Good shop work pace.
c. Clear task deadlines or targets. Labour estimates reviewed and posted on each job.
d. Jobs in and out. Limit # of jobs started. Meet the scheduled completion dates.
e. No rework. Enforce hold points and quality checks. Minimize field warranty repairs.
2. No lost time accidents.
3. Lasting efficiency improvements.
a. Efficient methods, standards, procedures. Training programs.
b. Design feedback to simplify designs for manufacture.
c. 5S: Improved material flow to minimize trades walking/searching/chatting.
4. Generally works 45 hours per week
Pay: $52,074.76-$104,521.49 per year
