Merovitz Potechin LLP is looking for a highly skilled and experienced Financial Controller to join our team.

This is a hybrid role with option to work from home 2 days a week.

**Responsibilities**:

- Responsible for ensuring the proper function of transaction processing services for the accounts payable, accounts receivable and trust accounting functions.
- Responsible for the accuracy of general ledger and sub-ledger entries; adherence to internal financial policies and controls; and ensuring that proper record keeping is performed for all financial transactions.
- In collaboration with the Partners, responsible for planning, designing, implementing and monitoring the financial controls framework.
- Hold primary responsibility for the preparation of accurate, timely and relevant reporting materials used to support the firm’s monthly, quarterly and annual financial review processes.
- Liaise with the external accounting firm to provide the financial details, reports, and any information required for the firm to prepare year-end financial statements in a timely manner.
- Provide recommendations and advice to the Managing Partner and Heads of Practice on the overall effectiveness and efficiency of the financial and accounting operations.
- Open and close bank accounts, trusts accounts and investment accounts on behalf of the firm.
- Maintain the bank reconciliation procedures and review bank statements and receipts
- Review and analyze monthly and quarterly results and work with the Managing Partner and Heads of Practice to identify financial issues and potential risks through trend analysis.
- Provide day-to-day management of Finance Team staff including coaching/mentoring, monitoring progress, providing advice and performance management.
- Ensure financial policies and procedures are documented and current.
- Recommend changes to procedures, systems and operations, and internal controls to increase efficiency and accuracy.
- Develop financial operating procedures and educate staff in their use.
- Establish and maintain effective relationships with the various suppliers and contractors, with banks, money managers and other external financial services providers and/or consultants.

**Required Qualifications**:

- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance or Commerce or related field
- Must have CPA porfessional accreditation
- Miniumum five (5) years’ progressive and proven accounting and financial experience in a broad-based accounting/finance role, including three (3) years at a manager role.
- Advanced Microsoft Office 365 skills, emphasis on Excel
- Adanced knowledge of financial accounting and management accounting practices
- Sound, working knowledge of Canadian GAAP and financial reporting requirements
- Strong analytical and financial reporting skills
- Exceptional leadership and people management abilities
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex financial information to non-financial stakeholders.
- Proven ability to set priorities, drive process improvements and multi-task in a fast-paced environment; well-organized and attentive to details
- Ability to prioritize and coordinate work flows under collaborative working conditions; able to act independently to sesolve administrative or scheduling-related conflicts with limited senior management involvment to ensure adherence and deadlines
- Knowledge and experience with trust accounting and time docketing
- Knowledge and experinece with PCLaw or Soluno accounting software is an asset.
- Knowledge and experience with LawPay online payment software is an asset
