The Calgary Drop-In and Rehab Centre (“the DI”) is a low-barrier, housing-focused shelter that serves some of the city’s most vulnerable people. At the DI, we focus on providing a person’s basic needs, while doing everything possible to find them a permanent, safe home that meets their individual needs. There is no greater contribution you can make to another person’s path of recovery and wellness than an ongoing, consistent, positive relationship of respect and kindness. The DI works within the core values of housing first, trauma-informed care, and harm reduction to support staff and guests.

Position Summary
Reporting to the Free Goods Manager(s), you will provide support to staff and clients and the daily operations of the Donation Centre and the Move-Out Program. You will be part of the Strategy, Impact & Engagement pillar, which includes stakeholder relations, fund development, volunteer resources, internal and external communications, community education and outreach/schools, and the Donation Centre. You will be responsible for ensuring donation intake, inventory, data collection, volunteer and practicum program support and other administration duties as well as item distribution among clients in need which will further the realization of the vision, mission, and strategic priorities of the DI; specifically helping people to be successfully and sustainably housed.
Time Commitment
40 hours per rotation; with 5 days on and 2 days off. Some unusual hour may be required from time to time as the need arises. Schedule may be altered at the discretion of management.

**Responsibilities**:
- Safely transport the goods and materials by any of the DI fleet
- Ensuring PPE levels and protocols are always met
- Load, unload and move donations and materials by hand or with basic material handling equipment
- Ensures trucks are clean in and out, issues reported and documented
- Maintain and organize, ensuring the loading dock downtown and at the Donation Centre is clear and organized at all times
- Maintains quality service by following organization standards
- Completes reports by entering the required information accurately with DI reporting systems
- Assist in troubleshooting donated items, useful vs non-useful vs garbage
- Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed
- Assisting in general clean up, snow shoveling and janitorial when in house
- Assist in touring and supporting individual/group volunteers and fine options
- Helping assign tasks to volunteers and fine options when in house
- Supporting Move Out Program, volunteers and practicum programs, CLIC and warehousing when in house
- Follow communications templates and procedures when working with community partners
- Foster a culture of community engagement throughout the DI and within community, to ensure stewarding positive relationships and problem-solving for the best possible, mutually beneficial outcomes.
Job Requirements
Please note that CSA steel toed footwear is required.
Required Competencies and Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Warehouse or similar experience preferred
- Satisfactory Criminal Record and Vulnerable Sector Check - dated within the last 6 months. Copy required.
- Clean, valid driver’s license (must be at least 25 years of age for insurance purposes) is preferred
- Possession of First Aid, Forklift and WHMIS certification would be an asset
- Proficient knowledge of computers using Office365 and Microsoft Office and any other database software(s) used to track service delivery
- Team oriented, friendly and will go out of their way to help all stakeholders
- Able to lift incoming donations (up to 50 lbs.) and can evaluate whether the donations can be kept or discarded
- Able to use warehouse equipment and maintain it
- Willingness to do janitorial work
- Well-developed interpersonal and conflict resolution
- Well-developed communication skills, both oral and written
- Demonstrate essential desktop troubleshooting skills
- Eager to learn new systems and adopt improved best practices
- Must demonstrate initiative and work autonomously

Working Conditions
While your position does not normally consist of front-line work, it is important for us to tell you that front-line staff are exposed to emotionally disturbing events, such as: medical distress, threatened and/or actual serious injury, violence, abuse, and death; where clients may be experiencing fear, terror, hopelessness, rage, self-harm and conflict.
Although the DI is a smoke-free work environment, there may be occasional exposure to secondhand smoke from designated smoking areas nearby.
