**Indigenous Community Training and Development Specialist**

.**75 Part Time Permanent Position**

Under the general direction of the Senior Director Housing Supports, the Indigenous Community Training and Development Specialist will work in collaboration/cooperation with homeless serving organizations, lived experts, Knowledge Keepers, Elders and through a Training Committee to co-create teachings/learnings that will support service providers in acquiring core competencies in their direct service and team leadership work. In recognition that Indigenous individuals/families in Winnipeg are overrepresented in experiencing homelessness, the training will provide service providers the opportunity to understand from a historic and current perspective, the impact that systemic racism, oppression and colonization has had on homelessness. The training will be conducted through an Indigenous lens to provide the service providers understanding of the people they are supporting, and to promote the use of trauma informed care and supportive healing relationships. The Indigenous Community Training and Development Specialist is responsible for, but not limited to the following:

- Design and develop team and individual training programs, curriculum and training materials including e-learning courses and workshops (outsourced and/or in-house), ensuring training is developed to engage adult learners
- Organize trainings i.e. book venues, oversee registration, maintain budgets, maintain training and curriculum records, create/monitor waitlists and guidelines for processes and platforms for the training documents, measure outcomes and implement post training surveys
- Work with community organizations, workers, and internal/external partners to assess training needs and implement training curriculum. This may include delivering training, and coordinating training opportunities for employees that work in emergency shelters, do street outreach, work in drop-in centres and provide case management
- Work with leaders and direct service workers to plan training, ensuring Knowledge Keepers/Elders are included in the input/development process
- Implement training that will motivate and increase employee skills to improve services for people at risk or experiencing homelessness
- Arrange/ensure training that supports service providers in understanding Indigenous homelessness and historical/current reasons for it
- Lead the Training Committee and participate in working groups to facilitate local training priorities and strategies
- Provide information and reports to management as well as updates to the Senior Director Housing Supports on community training issues, concerns and opportunities

You are passionate about ending homelessness and have an in-depth understanding of homelessness and housing, as well as the needs of particularly vulnerable and over-represented populations and the issues affecting many homeless and low-income people. You also possess the following qualifications or an equivalent combination of education and related experience:

- As EHW is committed to reconciliation and the inclusion of an Indigenous world view, experience with the practice of Indigenous culture, history, knowledge systems, and Indigenous community relationship building practices and protocols is required
- Post-secondary certificate or degree in a related discipline, e.g., social work, community development, Indigenous studies, social services, planning, education, adult education certificate and a minimum of 3 years’ experience in related field in an educator role
- Previous hands-on experience facilitating and coordinating training events in a community setting
- Ability to complete full training cycle (assess needs, plan, develop, coordinate, monitor and evaluate)
- Working knowledge of community issues related to homelessness and knowledge of colonization and the historical factors that continue to impact Indigenous people regarding homelessness, poverty, etc.
- Ability to work from a trauma-informed and harm reduction perspective
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, in the non-profit and charitable sectors, service providers, and all those involved in ending homelessness
- Experience interacting with community organizations, Indigenous organizations, funders in the homeless serving sector
- Ability to work in a Windows environment including intermediate to advanced skill using Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
- Experience with general administrative procedures and practices
- Ability to maintain accurate, current records (databases and paper files)
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Ability to communicate effectively in orally and in written format
- Ability to work as a team member as well as the ability to problem solve and function independently with mínimal supervision
- Valid MB driver’s licence and access to a vehicle for transportation
