BCIT’s** Student Success** division is seeking a **temporary, full-time (1.0 **FTE**) Health Promotions Strategist**. This position develops and implements health promotion strategies and initiatives in fulfillment of BCIT’s commitment to learner success, wellbeing, and resilience. Utilizes assessment, evaluation, and consultation to understand students’ experiences and needs and to inform the design and delivery of communication outreach, programs and initiatives designed to enhance learner success, wellbeing and resilience. Supports BCIT’s Student Wellbeing Advisory Committee and collaborates with a wide range of internal and external interested parties to engage in environmental assessment of student health and wellbeing and to imbed wellbeing support in various institutional processes and activities. Actively supports development and facilitation of training faculty, staff and peer mentors in support of student wellbeing and persistence.**Duties & Responsibilities**

**RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- Develops, leads and implements campus-wide mental health related initiatives that support learner wellbeing by creating and implementing health promotion programs and communication campaigns on topics such as: suicide prevention, stress reduction, help-seeking for mental-health support, sleep practices, sexual health. and overdose prevention
- Write grant proposals related to learner health and wellbeing promotion and monitoring and supporting the completion of deliverables related to those grants. Administers program budget, including external grants, and reports out on program deliverables to government and not-for profit organizations.
- In conjunction with the Student Success management team, coordinates and implements of the work of the Student Wellbeing Advisory Committee. Builds advocacy for wellbeing and mental health related engagement, awareness, and collaboration.
- Develops strategic partnerships with internal campus partners such as faculty, students, Student Association, Indigenous Initiatives, Student Success, Learning and Teaching centre to implement new strategies and initiatives in new and existing institutional activities.
- Represents the department in both internal and external partnerships and professional associations related to Health Promotion and includes relevant interested parties in the internal assessment of institutional climate of learning wellbeing.
- Recommends policy, procedural and process changes related to learner mental health, wellbeing and resilience while ensuring alignment with the BCIT Strategic plan focus on learner wellbeing and resilience and the strategic priorities identified in the Student Wellbeing and Resilience Framework.
- Engages in assessment and evaluation of the status of learner wellbeing in order to understand our students’ needs and experience and to inform health promotion activities by collecting and maintaining wellness data, supporting implementation of national surveys of the student population and using this data to inform initiatives.
- Maintains familiarity with institutional initiatives and data related to diversity, equity and inclusion as it pertains to student wellbeing and sense of inclusion and belonging and using this information to inform broader wellbeing initiatives. Engages in internal assessment of institutional climate of learning wellbeing and inclusion and monitors and evaluates impacts of initiatives and programing to inform program plans.
- Surveys, assesses, develops, and leads implementation of evidence-based programs designed to enhance learner mental health, wellbeing, and resilience and ensures needs of equity-seeking populations are considered and addressed in wellbeing initiatives.
- Leads the development, facilitation and evaluation of educational sessions, workshops, large-scale events and online educational programs aimed at enhancing mental health, wellbeing and resilience.

**REQUIREMENTS**:

- Master’s degree in Health Promotion, Public Health or Health Education
- Five years experience in health promotion planning and implementation and creating and implementing health promotion outreach programs and communication campaigns.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Excellent knowledge of health promotion theory (example socio-ecological approach) and positive psychology
- Excellent knowledge of issues impacting post-secondary student mental health and wellbeing, including those related to international students, Indigeneity, LGBTQ+ and other diverse intersecting identities.
- Excellent knowledge of a systems approach to health promotion in a post-secondary environment.
- Excellent knowledge of the social determinants of health and wellbeing and the intersection between diversity, equity and inclusion and health and wellbeing.
- Excellent planning, project management and organizational skills
