**Job Summary**
- Dalhousie University’s Office of Advancement is responsible for all fundraising and alumni engagement activities at the institution. A team of over 100 advancement professionals cultivates relationships with alumni and friends of the university and works with donors to help them achieve personal fulfilment through philanthropic investment. Reporting to the Senior Development Officer, Legacy Giving, the Development Officer, Legacy Giving will work in consultation with the Senior Development Officer, members of the development team, staff, faculty members, and volunteers campus-wide to plan, coordinate, implement and evaluate assigned legacy giving initiatives.

**Key Responsibilities**
- In collaboration with the Senior Development Officer create and execute stewardship plans for key legacy giving expectancies, ensuring that a highly personal approach is taken with every contact made with a donor or prospect by the University.
- Solicit and manage an assigned list of the University’s planned gift prospects, such work requires extensive judgment, discretion and diplomacy.
- Improve the efficiencies or effectiveness of targeted solicitation programs by innovative problem solving.
- Keep up-to-date on legislation and regulations governing estate planning, tax and charitable giving.
- Document, track and report on activities to appropriate internal stakeholders.
- Build strong relationships with individuals and organizations as well as other communities of interest.

**Note**
The successful applicant will be eligible for hybrid work (combination of in-person work on campus and remote work) as agreed by all parties based on operational requirements and university guidelines.

**Required Qualifications**
- Undergraduate business degree or related area, with three to five years’ experience in fundraising, professional sales, business development or a related field (or equivalent combination of training and experience).
- Political acumen and maturity are essential qualities in dealing with donors.
- Exceptional written, oral and interpersonal communication skills.
- Diplomacy and sensitivity to the needs and interests of other departments, divisions and units with competing development objectives.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced and results-oriented environment.
