**Job Summary**

The Assistant Vice President, Strategy is responsible for leading the day-to-day development of CN’s Corporate Strategy. In addition, they lead a team that oversees the execution of large scale and complex strategic initiatives or studies, as directed by the Chief Strategy Officer (CSO) in collaboration with other senior leaders.

**Main Responsibilities**

**Strategic Initiatives**
- Lead development of corporate strategy
- Act as a partner to the business on important strategic decisions
- Support the Strategy and Investment Committee
- Monitor competitive dynamic including quarterly operations, finance, and strategy review
- Conduct and commission strategic analyses in support of business
- Monitor external trends and competitive intelligence
- Manage panel of advisors and relationship with industry luminaries
- Articulate sets of available strategic options for the enterprise
- Build and recommend proposed enhancement to strategic priorities and plan to executive leaders
- Align stakeholders to common goals
- Communicate outcomes across the business
- Manage external service vendors
- Deliver value in partnership with the business
- Lead and develop strategic skills across the business
- Lead and coordinate merger, acquisition, and integration activities, including commercial, financial, and operational due diligence
- Maintain list of acquisitions or joint venture targets and evaluate opportunities as they manifest themselves
- Support initiatives to monetize CN assets

**People Management**
- Oversee a team of strategic leads responsible for key deliverables, including market analyses, financial models, communication of recommendations and execution plans
- Lead across functions by identifying and aligning the Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) from across the business to execute a wide range of initiatives and deliverables
- Provide coaching and feedback to direct reports
- Provide direct reports with opportunities for career development
- Participate in succession planning
- Participate in performance evaluations, review findings from indirect reports for team members

**Working Conditions**

The role has standard working conditions in an office environment with a regular workweek from Monday to Friday. The incumbent must be available to work night shifts and weekends when necessary. The role requires occasional travel (25%) throughout North America.

**Requirements**:
**Experience**
- Transportation or Logistics_
- Minimum 8 years of transportation and logistics experience
- Experience with a Class 1 railroad*
- Experience in marketing, sales, operations, finance, or technology*
- Experience in corporate planning and strategy
- Demonstrated leadership skills in a multi-stakeholder and decentralized environment
- Minimum 6 years of experience in a management consulting firm with specific railroad and strategy experience*
- Experience in Progressive management and project management
- Experience presenting to an executive audience
- Experience developing talent towards successful execution

**Education/Certification/Designation**
- Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management, or equivalent
- Master’s in Business Administration or other advanced degree*
- Additional certifications such as Certified Financial Analyst (CFA), Project Management (PMP), Lean Six Sigma*

- Strong knowledge of CN’s core functions (e.g., Transportation, Network Operations, Sales or Marketing of products, Finance or Information and Technology (I&T))
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook, Teams)
- Knowledge of financial analysis and business valuation
- Knowledge of Tableau or a similar analytical visualization tool
- Fluently bilingual both verbal and written (English, French*)
