Working in the Dean’s Office, the Research and Graduate Studies Officer provides leadership for graduate-level administration in OAC and also supports the substantial research portfolio of OAC. With the largest graduate population on campus (over 700 graduate students), this role is critical to ensuring the smooth and successful operation of graduate program administration, development and recruitment, awards and ongoing success of graduate students. Through exceptional communication with stakeholders, the incumbent builds relationships and steers graduate operations to become more efficient while also identifying opportunities to attract and retain students (eg: strategic integration of awards in funding), and offers high level support to the pre-award research administration portfolio to ensure the success of OAC’s substantial research operation (with over $55M in annual research revenues). This role reports to the Associate Dean Research and Graduate Studies. In providing operational leadership for graduate and research operations, some of the opportunities that this role offers you include:

To assume the role of Research and Graduate Studies Officer:

- You are client focused and consistently demonstrate a high standard of service that provides an example for those around you and that helps you develop strong relationships, including anticipating the needs of your clients in order to drive activity and provide project management and organizational support for the priorities of the Office of the Associate Dean, Research and Graduate Studies;
- You have a strong process orientation, with attention to detail and the ability to synthesize information, develop best practices and reconcile a high volume of transactions across disparate systems;
- You are excited by project-based work and your adaptability includes excellent time and attention management;
- You have advanced knowledge of desktop software, databases and other software products that, combined with your financial and operational management skills, enables you to manage research administration and awards delivery at both the transaction and aggregate level by completing critical analyses and maintaining meticulous records;
- You possess an undergraduate degree in food, agriculture, communities, the environment or another related field;
- You have a Master’s Degree in a relevant field and have three to five years of experience and a strong background in project management, preferably with awards management and grant development. It would also be preferable to have experience with University policies and systems or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- You are familiar with major granting agencies, their policies and practices, and the agri-food industry
- You are enthusiastic about supporting a diverse and growing graduate student population and members of OAC in maintaining excellence in research and graduate studies.
