Friends of Ruby is dedicated to the journey and well-being of 2SLGBTQIA+ youth, aged 16-29 through mental health services, social services, and housing. Friends of Ruby offers Youth Mental Health services, a Youth Drop-In Centre, and a Transitional Home. The Centre provides access to barrier-free counselling and therapeutic groups, case management and a drop-in space with hot meals, community, and comprehensive programming. The Home provides transitional and emergency housing, mental health, and life-skills to support youth moving towards independent living.

**Position Summary**

Friends of Ruby is seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated individual from the 2SLGBTQIA+ community to join our team as an Intake Coordinator. In this role, you will be the first point of contact for incoming youth accessing our services at the Youth Services Centre in Downtown Toronto. Reporting to the Clinical Manager, the Intake Coordinator will play a pivotal role in assessing client needs, coordinating referrals, and facilitating access to appropriate care teams within the organization.

**Responsibilities**

Client Assessment and Referral:

- Conduct comprehensive psychosocial assessments for incoming 2SLGBTQIA+ youth.
- Prioritize and direct inquiries to different programs or set up intake appointments.
- Conduct initial screening assessments and make necessary referrals.
- Collaborate with clinical and housing teams to share relevant information on clients waiting for service.

Community Outreach and Engagement:

- Conduct various forms of community outreach to promote services.
- Collaborate with program staff, employment services, and the development team to create engaging content for social media presence.
- Attend information sessions and community networking events to promote our services.

Administrative Support:

- Coordinate intake worker schedule and book appointments with available staff.
- Manage intake clinical files, ensuring compliance with record retention policies.
- Record and track all required data related to clients accessing services.

Client Support:

- Provide supportive assistance to new clients and de-escalation for clients in immediate crisis.
- Assist in overseeing the drop-in area, ensuring the overall physical and emotional safety of the space.
- Incorporate mental health considerations into client interactions and assessments.

**Qualifications**
- Undergraduate in Social Work, Psychology, Sociology, or a related healthcare field.
- 3-5 years of experience in assessing client needs, crisis de-escalation, and supportive interactions.
- Lived experience as BIPOC 2SLGBTQIA+ community.
- Experience working with mental health services within the 2SLGBTQIA+ youth sector.
- A champion for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion & ARAO, including but not limited to:

- Ability to navigate and communicate effectively in diverse environments.
- Understanding of the broader social and cultural contexts that impact DEI efforts.
- Understanding of equity issues and a commitment to promoting fairness and equality.
- Excellent communication skills with an emphasis on inclusive language.
- Understanding of cross-cultural, anti-oppressive, and trauma-informed practices.
- Strong time management, information tracking, and prioritization skills.
- Exceptional communication skills (oral and written); excellent interpersonal skills.
- Innovative with sharp critical thinking skills, tact, and sound judgment.
- Self-leadership with the ability to carry out tasks independently.
- Flexible to work outside of standard hours when necessary.
- CPI, Mental Health, First Aid Training are assets.

Additional Requirements:

- Satisfactory clearance under the Vulnerable Sector Police Check Program.
- Legal eligibility to work in Canada.
- Willingness to work onsite Monday to Friday at the Friends of Ruby Drop-In Youth Centre located in downtown Toronto.
- Willing to work on a flexible schedule to accommodate the needs of the organization, including evenings.
- Ability to travel to other community-based settings as needed.
