Position Summary
The Manager, Energy & Sustainability is in the Engineering & Building Services department and will be responsible for managing energy efficiency projects and sustainability initiatives on existing multi-residential properties. Coordination between the construction stakeholders and the Homestead operational team is essential to ensure projects are completed on time, on budget and with the least disruption possible to the occupied buildings.
The MES (Manager, Energy & Sustainability) will be responsible for coordinating quality control of the work, schedules and budgets and manage the relationship between the contractor(s), consultant(s) and the property management team to facilitate the projects. This includes coordination with governing bodies to ensure incentives are obtained for appropriate work.
**Responsibilities**:
- Develop and assist in execution of energy conservation measures, projects and programs - including developing business cases for new technologies and estimated paybacks.
- Understand and recommend opportunities within the multi-residential market for incentives and funding and review appropriate opportunities for senior management consideration.
- Have a detailed understanding of energy efficiency and incentives available for these types of projects and bring forward new ideas in these areas to improve Homestead’s overall energy consumption.
- Regularly monitor, track and assess variances in utility performance - including water, electricity and gas. Present ideas through capital projects to reduce consumption in these key areas.
- Ensure consistency for energy management and sustainability initiatives across the portfolio and work with other project management team members to facilitate projects in various regions as required.
**Requirements**:
- Over 5 years of progressive project development and/or implementation experience, in building science or energy conservation/sustainability related project management is an asset.
- Strong administrative and budgetary skills involving building capital programs and operating budgets.
- Over 5 years’ experience managing professional staff, consultants, construction firms and general contractors and leading project teams is an asset.
- Detailed understanding of energy efficiency measures and technologies that can achieve reductions in energy consumption. Energy performance modeling would be an asset.
- Demonstrated knowledge of applicable codes and government legislation including, but not limited to, the Occupational Health and Safety Act and its Regulations, the Construction Lein Act, The National Fire Code, Ontario Building Code, Construction Standards Association, etc.
- Possess a valid Ontario driver’s license, class “G” and use of a personal vehicle for travel to sites.
- A sound understanding of building envelope construction details A detailed understanding of building mechanical systems and automation systems would be an asset.
- Professional affiliations that would be of benefit: Professional Engineers of Ontario (PEO), Ontario Building Envelop Council (OBEC), Certified Engineering Technologist (CET), Project Management Professional (PMP)
