**POSITION PURPOSE**:

- The Acquisitions Technician acquires all digital and print materials and processes and maintains all periodicals for the Tyndale library to support the curriculum of Tyndale University in adherence to the library collection policy. The Acquisitions Technician regularly explores ways to streamline the ordering and receiving of Library items.
** PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES**:
**Ordering Materials**:

- Check acquisition requests from faculty and librarians against WorldCat to ensure item is not already owned by Tyndale Library.
- Check reading lists of all syllabi to identify new potential materials to order not owned by the library.
- Ensure that the orders go out to the correct vendors who can fulfill them.
- Use available online systems to check WorldCat, Gobi and Amazon to research pricing for items.
- Receive purchased items into the system and prepare them for cataloging.
- Receive new items and arrange for the payment of invoices.
- Keep accurate records of e-subscriptions to different databases.
- Maintain statistics for reporting purposes, including financial tracking of Library holdings purchases.
- Maintain an up-to-date list of series titles and subscription status.
- Handle all written, electronic and voice correspondence related to acquisitions.
- Keep the Library Acquisition Manual up-to-date.

**Acquisition and Maintenance of Print and Electronic Periodicals**:
**- Order and renew periodical subscriptions
- Add bibliographic record, local holdings and links,
- Receive and renew print and electronic periodicals, ensuring that ordered materials have arrived and communicating with periodical jobbers and vendors.
- Accurately check in print periodicals into the WorldCat catalogue and maintain accurate periodical holdings.
- Receive invoices and enter into invoice portal for approval.
- Review annual invoices, and supply usage statistics to University Librarian.
- Contact periodical vendors to solve invoice and subscription issues.
- Check to make sure electronic periodical links are working effectively.
- Make claims for missing periodical issues.
- Maintain statistics for reporting purposes.
- Maintain and update the periodicals holdings list.
- Box periodicals when applicable.
- Update the Serials Procedure Manual on a regular basis.

**General Library Assistance**:
**- Regularly take shifts at the public services desk as needed and be able to work one evening shift per week assisting library patrons at the public services desk.
- Work two Saturday shifts per academic term at the public services desk.**:** POSITION QUALIFICATIONS**:
**Education**:

- Knowledge of theological/Biblical studies, preferred
- Two year college diploma for Library and Information Technician

**Experience**:

- 1 year library acquisitions experience preferred
- Academic library experience, preferred
- Experience working with OCLC WordShare Acquisitions module is preferred.

**Skills and Abilities**:

- Ability to adjust to ongoing technological changes in an atmosphere of continuing automation
- Ability to work accurately with details at a fair rate of speed
- Demonstrated good customer service skills
- Good interpersonal skills in order to relate well with individuals at all levels, including faculty, team members, administration, and students
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- Mastery of Microsoft Office Suite especially Word and Excel with an aptitude to learn other software programs

**Physical and Mental Demands**:

- May encounter challenging people from time to time. Important to maintain a calm and professional demeanor; listening to the customer's needs
- Moderate physical effort, e.g. pushing book carts, lifting piles of heavy books (up to 20 kg)
- Must be available to work outside regular business hours
- Shared office space with regular distractions
- Visual and mental concentration required; ability to concentrate on details
- Working with standard office equipment (computers, photocopiers, etc.)
